Jack is phenomenal! His gentle yet direct suggestions in my song's arrangements really pushed the project to the next level. Not just because of the extra sauce he was able to add with his fantastically tasteful guitar and harmonica playing but because of his friendly and professional level of communication every step of the way. The tracks were sonically clean and creatively brilliant. 10/10 will work with him again!

Jack produced five tracks for me, playing guitars, bass, and singing multiple harmonies. He is a creative wiz, totally responsible and punctual, and a great guy. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Sometimes using remote tracks from other people's studios can be a nightmare, but with Jack it's always smooth sailing. I write scores for TV shows and movies at my studio in Los Angeles, and I've used Jack for vocals countless times. Not only is he an incredible singer, but I know that the tracks he sends me will sound incredibly great and fix into my mixes without any problems. In both sound and performance everything he does is flawless.

Jack is the consummate guitar player. He can adapt to many different styles. He has performed on many tracks for me ranging from acoustic to heavier rock/pop with excellent results. Jack know his instrument and also is well versed in the recording process. He has a wonderful voice and has also provided both lead and backing vocals for me. Jack is extremely easy to work with. He has a wonderful attitude and is very easy going. I refer to him as the Chillest Guitar Player I Know. I love working with him and will continue to do so.

Interview with Jack Skuller

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: I keep everything in my studio readily available so that the creative process can flow smoothly, and uninterrupted by setup time. I start by locating the key components of a project - the sounds I'll support and build around. I'm very conscious of balance, and I enjoy creating tracks that are both interesting and focused. I love hooks!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Analog (with the exception of recording to tape). I've always enjoyed capturing audio sources with as complete of a picture as possible. I love the sound of my recordings passing through wires, circuits, and tubes on the way to the computer.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I got my first record deal when I was 14 years old. Later, I had a several year stint with Disney Records. I've been releasing my own original music ever since. I've also been touring my tribute acts to Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers for 9 years. I received my bachelors degree in music production at Stevens Institute of Technology, and quickly built my own recording studio. It wasn't long until I was recording tracks for other artists, too!

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Always take a break for lunch!

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Typically any brand of Americana, blues, country, rockabilly, pop and rock n' roll.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I have a comfortable studio that's filled with vintage recording gear, and it's perfect for my needs and my clients. I'm able to capture really tight, controlled sounds that are easy to manipulate in post-production. Lots of vintage microphones, preamps, compressors, guitars, basses and amplifiers. A sizable portion of that gear is broadcasting equipment from the 50s, 60s and 70s. My recording style is most heavily influenced by my favorite hit-makers: Motown, Muscle Shoals, Chess Records and The Beatles.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I'm most often singing, either on stage or in my recording studio, or crafting complete demos for songwriters who need to flesh out their songs. I also get hired to play guitar and harmonica for other artists.
