Interview with Leonardo Gonzalez

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I usually work on rock, pop, jazz, funk, and experimental music, but I also have experience with Afrobeat, blues, soul, R&B, and progressive rock.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: My strongest skills as a drummer are groove, versatility, and musicality. I have a tight, consistent feel across different genres, from laid-back blues and jazz to high-energy rock and Afrobeat. I focus on creating dynamic, expressive drum parts that enhance the song while keeping everything locked in. Plus, my ability to blend acoustic and electronic elements allows me to adapt to any project, whether in the studio or live.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: As a drummer, my goal is to bring energy, groove, and musicality to every track I play on. I don’t just lay down a beat—I craft drum parts that enhance the song’s emotion and movement while staying true to the artist’s vision.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: When working on a track, my goal is to create drum parts that feel natural, complement the song’s energy, and enhance the overall groove. Here’s how I approach each project: -Listening & Absorbing – I start by listening to the song multiple times to understand its structure, dynamics, and feel. I take note of key moments and transitions to ensure the drums serve the music effectively. -Jamming & Exploring – Before settling on a final part, I jam around the song, experimenting with different grooves, fills, and textures. This helps me feel the natural movement of the track and find what fits best. -Defining the Groove – Once I’ve locked into the vibe, I refine each section, making sure the groove transitions smoothly and complements the song’s flow. I craft detailed drum parts that elevate the track while maintaining musicality and pocket. -Client Collaboration – I work closely with my clients, making adjustments based on their feedback until they’re completely happy with the result. Whether it’s minor tweaks or a complete rework, my goal is to deliver a drum performance that matches their vision.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: My studio is fully equipped to deliver high-quality drum recordings tailored to your project.
