Jamie Reynolds on SoundBetter

Professional Music Producer, Instrumentalist & Mixer. I excel at taking even the smallest ideas and turning them into full, shiny, finished projects.

I'm a professional music producer, mixer & touring musician who has been working in the music industry for over a decade. I'm incredibly passionate about creating a piece of art that myself, my collaborators and my clients are proud of. Im a multi-instrumentalist, excelling in bass guitar and sound design.

I aim to help you turn your artistic vision (or the song you hear in your head) into a reality. Whether you just have a vocal, a small instrumental, or just simply an idea in your head... I aim to turn it into the final product you were hoping for.

I'm also happy to build from scratch, and have access to multiple world class topliners, musicians and collaborators. I work remotely, but pride myself on transparent communication throughout the entire process.

My process:
I aim to make the project as simple of a process as you desire.
All I need is a description of what you're looking for, and the delivery of any files I would require.
Once payment is received, I will have the project finished and sent over to you by the agreed delivery date.

Jamie gave nothing but 100% commitment and hard work when we worked together in the studio, the end result was something far from what i’d imagined - I recommend Jamie for any session work whether that be in the studio as a performer / producer or in a live situation.

Jamie did an incredible job mixing and mastering my live album. He really brought the songs to life, making everything sound clear, balanced, and professional. Super easy to work with, creative, and always attentive to detail whilst also listening to my views, wants and opinions. Couldn’t be happier with the final result—highly recommend him to anyone looking for top-quality production and mixing

Interview with Jamie Reynolds

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm incredibly proud of both the Starting To Spin EP and Terrible Town LP by Airways. This was the project that helped cut my teeth as a writer and instrumentalist into my early 20's. I had the opportunity to work with world class, award winning professionals - who gave their time to help develop my skills and create a great piece of work.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I'll do my absolute best to get your tracks sounding exactly how you imagined they would sound.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Have faith that the ideas you have are great.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Fender P Bass, 1176, UAD Apollo, Macbook Pro... and a kettle.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I started at 17 joining the band Airways as a bass player, and was producing for artists alongside. We toured and recorded relentlessly up until lockdown hit, where I decided I wanted to take on more clients. Now I play bass for the band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets alongside producing & mixing for a multitude of artists every month.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Trust your gut (and trust your ears). If your gut suggested you should take something in that direction, it's probably right.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Predominantly Indie Rock, Electronic, Dance and Hip-Hop. I like to keep it fresh and work on as many genre's as possible, but the aforementioned are the genres I feel I excel in.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: My extensive work as a bass player has left me with a very strong feel for groove and rhythm, and I like to lean into this as much as I possibly can.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Attention to detail and a belief that the moves i'm making are the correct moves for the song.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I like to hear exactly what the artist wants from the track before diving in. I'm very much about the energy in a song, and the contour of how that energy comes and goes. I'll outline an instrumental, add some seasonings and then dig into how to make the parts you want to hit, HIT properly. Once it's feeling great pre-mix, i'll take it into the mix stage.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I work out of a multitude of studios as i'm regularly touring. I also have a travelling "producer kit" that I bring with me in a pelican case, featuring studio monitors, interface and my laptop running my DAW.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I typically create finished, fully produced songs from a couple of tracks... For example a guitar and a vocal, or keys and drums.
