Mind's Eye Mastering on SoundBetter

Finishing the Masterpiece Record of your Mind's Eye.

Sam started his career working at legendary recording and mastering studios in Nashville to learn what it takes to make and finish a great record across all genres.

He gained the understanding that the role of the mastering engineer is not only the final quality control, but also as the last person to realize the artist’s vision before release into the hyper-competitive marketplace.

He learned his true calling is to bring order to the beautiful chaos of music production through creating top-quality masters that will stand the test of time.

Interview with Mind's Eye Mastering

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both. Each has their own strengths. Learning what those are and then applying them allows me to combine the best of both worlds into a master I can stand behind. Understanding my tools and knowing how to listen to a mix tells me what to use.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Bringing records to life! Being the last step in the process is such an honor. So much more than a lot of other artistic mediums, music production has so many layers and steps. The trust that my clients have in me to add the final touches to their project is a gift.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What's your budget and timeline for the project? What deliverables do you need? (DDP for CD, Vinyl, Streaming, Apple Masters, Metadata Encoding, etc.) Do you have any sonic references for the track(s)? What questions do you have for me?

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Reach out to me and ask my any questions you might have. I'd love to get to know you better and understand your goals for your project.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: You! You're taking the time to read this and learn more about me, I endlessly appreciate that.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: My ears and experience. I've listening to amazing recordings, mixes, and masters from all over the world and understand what makes them great. I've worked every role in the music production process and understand the strengths and limitations of each. This informs me on what I can impart to a master.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I work in an acoustically treated room with Unity Audio Super Rock monitors. Along with a myriad of fun plugins within my various DAWs, I've got a Lynx Hilo AD/DA converter which feeds and prints my chain currently consisting of: Teegarden Audio switchable transformer color-box, Manley Massive Passive Mastering Edition, and a Foote Control Systems Clip/Sat Master.
