Interview with Nameinprogress.s

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: When I made my first online sale as a singer. I had to create a full arrangement with multiple harmonies and ad-libs, and it was an amazing experience to fulfill the expectations of a buyer I didn’t even know, who lives in a completely different country.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My personal debut project I want to share with the world

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Unfortunately no, but if anyone has good recommendations, please let me know

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: One can’t go without the other, but if I had to choose, it would be digital. Yes, analog brings out character and gives music life, but I believe digital has evolved, and will continue to evolve, so much that the differences will become unnoticeable.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will give everything in my power to make your song sound great. I understand how frustrating it can be when things don’t turn out as expected during the process. The most important thing to me is to bring your vision to life.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: When the vision I had in my head becomes a “touchable” form and is available for others to hear, there’s no greater feeling. After many hours, finishing a song and having it turn out exactly the way you wanted is incredible. Then, of course, seeing so many people relate to you and your emotions makes it even more special.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most commonly, I get asked about my vocal range, which is mezzo/alto-soprano. I can sing in chest voice up to B4 or C5.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: A lot of people get into the game for the money, but the ones who stay and succeed are driven by love and passion. The money comes only after countless hours and hard work, something only true patience can sustain.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask a lot of questions to understand the bigger picture, especially when I’m writing melodies or lyrics. I need to know what you want, how you want it, when, where, and so on. And if you’re not exactly sure, I’ll ask about the emotions you’re aiming for or whether you have a general vision of how it should sound and feel.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be clear and specific. Even if you don’t have a fully formed vision of what you want, give as much detail and description as you can, so we can create something together.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop, interface, mic, headphones and a blanket.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been singing since I learned how to talk, and writing music since I knew how to write. It might sound cliché, but it’s the truth. For as long as I can remember, I’ve known what I want to do and where I belong. Recently, I started pursuing music full time—focusing on building my career and making a living from it until it fully takes off.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Raw. I love raw lyrics, raw emotions and raw performances.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I have several dream collaborations: Fred again.. – A true innovator with incredible sound and production. I love the way he creates, the way he mixes his songs, and how he finds music and inspiration in everyday moments. I also feel that my voice and skills would fit perfectly with what he does. RAYE – I love her music, especially the house tracks with upbeat tempos. I feel like our voices would blend beautifully, and I’d love to write and sing a dance-pop song with her, or even a slower one like Mary Jane. Rihanna and Lady Gaga – Two absolute icons. There’s not much to say besides the fact that they deeply influenced me with their artistic freedom and boundary-pushing sound. Doja Cat – An amazing artist with a fresh sound, strong storytelling abilities, and incredible performance style. Burna Boy / Asake / Wizkid – I absolutely love amapiano and Afro-fusion, and any of these three artists would be a dream to work with. Burna Boy, especially, has inspired many of my own songs, I've listened to his music the most. I have a few more, but I’ll stop here so I don’t get too boring. :)

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The whole point of music is to create masterpieces while still having fun. A song isn’t truly amazing if you lose all your joy and passion in the process. There should always be a balance between the two—one can’t exist without the other.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work within the pop genre and create music across its various subgenres, such as pop house, pop-rock, dance pop, ballads, and slower pop songs.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skills in music are performance, songwriting, and music writing. Generally, my greatest strengths are my commitment, my communication skills, and my love for what I do.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: t depends on the genre, the client’s wishes, and the final goal. I love to be involved as much as possible in the creative process, just as I am in singing.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Every day, I do vocal warm-ups and exercises to keep my voice "in shape" and improve my skills. When I record, I first set up my gear and prepare my space for work. Then, I do a quick test to check the velocity, waveform, and overall sound, and if everything is okay, I proceed with the recording. When I write topline melodies and/or lyrics, I first feel the vibe of the song and decide which emotions I want to bring out. If I’m writing for myself, I envision the story I want to tell, but if I’m writing for a client, I also consider whether it fits their personality, music style, and what they wish to express.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a desk in my room where I keep my interface and laptop, and I mix and record using Beyerdynamic headphones. I’ve also done a small acoustic treatment with two Vicoustic sound panels to have better control over my room’s sound.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I am really inspired by Doechii. I love how much she knows about music, and how she uses that knowledge in the best way possible. I also love the way she expresses herself and how raw and honest she is. Besides Doechii, I am also deeply inspired by Lady Gaga, who is known as an amazing musician and a woman who pushes boundaries and motivates people to be their true selves. When it comes to producers, I am deeply inspired by Mike Sabath, Illangelo, and PinkPantheress. I love their uniqueness and the way they interpret music.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mostly, they hire me as a session musician to sing on top of their music, and from time to time to write lyrics. Almost always, I write the topline melody and sing it, while for lyric writing, I am usually contacted separately.
