    Interview with Adrian Earnshaw

    1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

    2. A: What I love most about my job is the opportunity to bring ideas to life and create something meaningful for my clients. Music has the power to evoke emotion, tell stories, and connect with people on a profound level, and being part of that process is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy the creative challenge of crafting unique sounds and melodies, experimenting with new techniques, and pushing boundaries. Each project is a chance to collaborate, learn, and make something truly special.

    3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

    4. A: When working with prospective clients, I ask questions to fully understand their vision and goals for the project. Some key questions include: What mood or atmosphere are you aiming to convey? Are there specific genres, artists, or soundtracks that inspire the project? Do you have a preferred instrumentation or specific sounds you want to include? What is the intended purpose or medium for the music (e.g., film, game, album)? Are there any reference tracks or visual elements I should consider? What is your timeline and budget for the project? By asking these questions, I ensure that I can tailor my approach to meet their needs and create music that aligns perfectly with their vision.

    5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

    6. A: My promise is to bring passion, dedication, and my experience to every project I undertake. I will work closely with you to understand your vision and deliver music that not only meets but exceeds your expectations. Whether it’s crafting unique melodies, creating immersive soundscapes, or providing high-quality mixing, I’m committed to producing results that resonate with you and your audience. Your music deserves the best, and I’m here to help bring it to life with professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail

    7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

    8. A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that creating music is simply about playing notes or using software presets. In reality, it’s a deeply creative and collaborative process that requires a blend of technical skill, musical intuition, and years of experience. Crafting a compelling piece—whether it’s an ambient underscore, a cinematic composition, or a melodic line—takes time, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of how sound communicates emotion. Every element, from the choice of synthesizer patches to the dynamics of a piano performance, is carefully considered to serve the project’s vision. It’s not just about making music—it’s about telling a story and connecting with an audience through sound.

    9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

    10. A: My advice would be to clearly define your vision and goals for the project. The more details you can provide about the mood, style, and purpose of the music, the better I can tailor my skills to bring your ideas to life. Look for a provider who not only has technical ability but also the passion and creativity to truly connect with your vision. With over 30 years of experience in playing and composing, I bring energy, enthusiasm, and a diverse skill set to every project. Whether you need evocative cinematic underscores, unique synthesizer sounds, or expressive keyboard performances, I’m here to collaborate closely with you to create something extraordinary. Communication is key, so feel free to share your thoughts throughout the process—I’m dedicated to ensuring the final result exceeds your expectations.

    11. Q: How would you describe your style?

    12. A: My style is a fusion of ambient, cinematic, and electronic music that captures emotion and tells a story. I draw inspiration from pioneers like Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre, blending their influence with my own techniques to create immersive soundscapes. With over 30 years of experience, I excel at crafting melodic lines, evocative underscores, and bespoke sounds for synthesizers. My compositions often feature a balance of expressive piano, rich synthesizer textures, delivering music that resonates deeply with listeners. Whether designing intricate soundscapes or producing melodies that stick, my style is defined by creativity, precision, and a passion for pushing musical boundaries.

    13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

    14. A: That’s a tricky question, there’s many I would love to work with. Top of the list would be Jean Michel Jarre with Tangerine Dream coming a close second.

    15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

    16. A: Believe in your own abilities and not add too many layers to your project, let things breathe.

    17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

    18. A: I normally work on the following genres. Ambient, Electronica, Electronic, Cinematic and Classical.

    19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

    20. A: My strongest skill is composition, particularly in an ambient and cinematic style that transports listeners on an emotional journey. I combine strong music theory knowledge with versatile playing ability on a range of keyboard instruments, including piano, pipe organ, and synthesizers. This unique blend of skills allows me to craft deeply engaging and immersive musical landscapes. I also craft original sounds to use in my compositions when the need arises.

    21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

    22. A: I bring energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for music to every project I work on. With over 30 years of playing experience, I’ve developed a deep understanding of melody and sound design, allowing me to create captivating melodies and craft bespoke sounds for a wide variety of synthesizers. My unique techniques and creative approach ensure that each song is enriched with distinctive, high-quality elements tailored to its specific needs.

    23. Q: What's your typical work process?

    24. A: My typical work process revolves around working in the box within my DAW, where I handle everything from composition to mixing and mastering. I ensure a smooth workflow by bouncing down and committing any recorded parts to audio. This not only preserves the integrity of the project but also allows me to make edits or revisit the project at any time, even if the synthesizers or patches used are no longer available. This meticulous approach ensures that every project is future-proof and ready for any updates or revisions a client may need. By maintaining organized, high-quality audio stems, I provide a reliable and efficient service that meets the highest professional standards.

    25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

    26. A: My studio is a hybrid setup, combining the versatility of in-the-box production with the character and depth of hardware synths. I primarily work with Cubase and Bitwig as my DAWs, enabling precise and creative control over every project. For outboard equipment, I rely on an array of exceptional synthesizers, including the Dave Smith Prophet 12, Korg Radias, Waldorf Blofeld, Virus TI Snow, Argon 8, Erebus Dreadbox, and Minibrute 2S. These instruments provide a vast sonic palette, from warm analog tones to cutting-edge digital textures. This allows me to create interesting textures and sounds when imported into synthesizers like Omnisphere. To enhance my workflow, I use the Schrittmacher sequencer for complex and inspiring patterns, adding a dynamic and unique dimension to my compositions. This blend of software and hardware allows me to craft detailed, immersive music tailored to each client's needs.

    27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

    28. A: I'm deeply inspired by the pioneering sounds of Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre, who shaped the landscape of electronic music with their innovative compositions. I also admire Anna Lapwood for her versatility and passion for the organ. Additionally, sound designers like The Unfinished and Luftrum inspire me with their ability to craft evocative, atmospheric textures that elevate any musical project.

    29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

    30. A: I specialize in crafting melodic lines and creating compelling underscores for a variety of projects. Whether it’s enhancing a song with a memorable melody or adding emotional depth to visual media through cinematic underscore, I deliver music that perfectly complements and elevates your creative vision.
