Paolo Maurizi on SoundBetter

Your sound, dialed in: I offer online mixing, mastering, and production, collaborating closely to bring a sonic vision to life.

Hi, I'm Paolo, a music producer and audio engineer based in Perugia, Italy. I've been working with music for years producing, mixing, mastering and doing live sound and lighting for events.

I run a studio with acoustically treated rooms and a special hybrid setup: top-notch digital tools and vintage analog gear. This gives me the best of both worlds – exploration and warmth.

I'm passionate about producing hip-hop and electronic music, blending live instruments, analog synths, and dirty digital sounds.

Here’s what I offer:

Mixing: I'll balance your tracks and make them sound unique and organic.

Mastering: I'll add the final polish, optimizing your tracks for loudness, clarity, and impact.

Editing: I'll tighten up performances, clean up audio, and add creative touches.

Production Review: I'll give you honest feedback and ideas to improve your tracks.

Consultation: Let's talk about your vision and how I can help you achieve it.

Ready-made Beats/Instrumentals: Need a starting point? I've got you covered.

My experience in live sound and studio recording, combined with my love for blending analog and digital, means I can help you create a sound that's both modern and timeless.

Interview with Paolo Maurizi

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm currently in the production team of two artists, Kiko and Sheddy, and we've been working on their upcoming singles and albums. I also run a studio and with my collegues we are producing and recording some local artists.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both, analog for workflow and digital for precision.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The thing I love the most about this job is that it's always different, every project is unique and needs a different approach, both mental and technical.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: I think a lot of people don't get how important the mental approach is, it's not just knobs and buttons, it's how you use them in the context.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What's your vision?

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: My KOII for sure. Then a pc, an audio interface, a midi keayboard and headphones. The dream.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I would like to work with artist who are determinded and curious.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Find a fun workflow to make your ideas come to sound. Don't just go for what works for others.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I work mainly on Hip hop and Indie/Electronic.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I listen to the song, reed the notes, give some feedback if needed or requested, organize my session and feed it to the mixing board. Then I do some back and forth work between analog and digital untill I get something that I think is what the song needs. Once the main sound is developed I bring it to level and work on the details with the client.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I' ve always had a fascination for analog gear so i decided to go for a hybrid setup. The Allen Heath ML 3000 is the main console, wich provides me warmth and definition. Through my hardwares I can bring excitement and richness to the sound. In the digital domain I tend to work more specific and precise, expanding the limits of where I can get to with analog gear.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I grew up listening to all kinds of music, from 70's rock to electronic music. The first band that I ever loved is blink 182, the production on their 3 biggest albums was magic to me, thanks to Jerry finn and that's what I still consider one of the best examples of studio work. Later I discovered hip hop, starting from Wu-tang, Gang starr, Biggie to two of my biggest influences and inspirations, Kanye west and Pharrell williams.
