SPACEXBOY on SoundBetter

If you are looking to make music that makes you float, I am your guy. I bring the vibes and the punch too every song I work on in order too make it memorable and distinct.

Hello, my name is Aaron I go by the producer name Spacexboy because I am very good at adding this psychedelic spacey sound to my projects.

I work as a recording engineer with my own home studio as my primary base of operations, but I also do freelance work at many different studios in central Illinois.
I also do work as a mix/ mastering engineer. I do work as a drummer, and I make a lot of beats for people typically in some flavor of boom bap or jazz rap stylings.

When working on projects I bring a lot of cohesiveness, even when working in multiple different styles there will always be a through line on any project I work on.

I am also able to make sure your work stands out, working with me gives you a ton of freedom too really be yourself and you can see that on any project I work on.

I have done the most work in hip hop, but have also done quite a bit in the indie world, and have started too work more in the pop world as well as these are all genres I greatly adore and am happy too continue exploring.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with SPACEXBOY

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: Everything, this has been my dream forever, I love creating with every fiber of my being and I will do it as much as I possibly can.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What is your ideal outcome, who are your biggest influences, what are you wanting out of me, and what are your main goals with this project.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Find someone who really fits your vibe and can work on a concept with you. You got to have a good vision.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: My laptop, a midi controller with keys and a 4x4 beat pad, my M-Audio interface, an SM-57, and a nice pair of headphones. I know I could make a lot of sick music that way, and an SM-57 sounds good on anything.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've been doing this since I was in 8th grade, started with just my iPhone and I couldn't get GarageBand to work so I was using iMovie and overdubbing whatever instrument I wanted to add. I will never let anything stop me from creating. From there I got better started working with more people throughout high school until I got to college where I am currently. Now I freelance at my own home studio, and a bunch of studios in the area just making as much music as I possibly can.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Organic but Surreal Like you are dissasociating

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Denzel Curry for hip hop, I feel like my production style would just work so well with him and we could make some really special music. Clairo for more indie stuff as once again I feel our styles would mesh really well and we could make something really special. Also any soul artist because I just love soul music with all my heart.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Be yourself, it's not always about what's right but rather what feels good. (also use tape saturation more, it'll make things sound more alive if that's what you are going for)

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I tend too work on a lot of different styles, I would say I have the most experience working in hip hop, typically a more sample based, boom bap type sound, but also often I will work with bands mainly indie bands who like to work in a few different styles.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I am really good with percussion and rhythm, along with adding vibes and concepts too projects as I have stated many times.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: Concept, and space. I will give you room to breathe and be yourself and help you find your vision. Depending on what you want I am also really good at adding this surreal feeling to music, it'll feel organic but a little wonky at times and that's a space I feel I really thrive in.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I almost always start with the concept for the project, what feeling and vibe am I going for, what themes am I trying to get across. From there I define what the instrumental will need and start to build that along with the rest of the song with the artist.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: At the moment I'm working with a 32 channel mixer using the sends and eq to go into my hardware compressor and then into my interface for recording. I can currently use up to 8 inputs at time which normally is more than enough, I have a good selection of microphones from AKG, Shure, Rode, and a few other brands that all sound great when in the right application. I also have multiple instruments such as guitars, keyboards, drum machines, synths, drum sets, basses, and random bits of percussion always around as well for whatever is needed.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Tyler the Creator, Kenny Beats, Knxledge, Mac Demarco, RZA, Butch Vig, Jack Antonoff, Fineas

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Most often artists come too my studio with in idea, or having already written too one of my beats. We will then get the basic ideas down and then flesh them out too their fullest extent.
