Interview with Patricia Torres
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to collaborate with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Their ability to craft emotionally immersive and sonically innovative scores is incredibly inspiring. Their work combines raw emotion, intricate sound design, and cinematic storytelling in a way that resonates deeply with me as a composer and sound designer. Working with them would be a dream opportunity to learn and create something truly impactful. I’d also love to collaborate with Halsey because of her ability to blend raw emotion with genre-defying music, or Hans Zimmer to explore cinematic storytelling on a grand scale. These artists inspire me to push creative boundaries.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently created the score for a short film that explored themes of resilience and transformation. As the composer, I worked closely with the director to develop an emotional and immersive soundscape that complemented the visual narrative. The project challenged me to push my creative boundaries, and the result was a deeply impactful score that received praise from the audience for its emotional depth and storytelling.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently composing a cinematic score for an independent short film, designing sound effects for a game project, and collaborating on several pop and electronic tracks as a topliner and vocal producer. I’m also developing new visual art pieces that integrate AI technology for a multidisciplinary exhibition.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: While I haven't collaborated directly with others on SoundBetter yet, I admire the work of many talented professionals on this platform. I’m always happy to connect clients with other trusted artists or engineers if their project requires a specialized touch.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work primarily with digital tools because of their versatility, precision, and accessibility. Digital workflows allow for endless creative possibilities and efficient project turnaround times. That said, I appreciate the warmth and character of analog gear and often incorporate analog elements when a project calls for a more organic and textured sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat every project with the same level of care and passion as if it were my own. I’ll deliver high-quality results that align with your vision and exceed expectations.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the creative freedom and the opportunity to connect with others through art. Helping someone bring their vision to life is deeply rewarding, whether it’s a song, a score, or a sound design project.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: Can you help me bring my vision to life even if I’m not sure how to explain it? A: Absolutely! I’m skilled at interpreting ideas and emotions, even if they’re not fully formed. Through detailed discussions and listening to your references or inspirations, I can translate your vision into a polished, professional project. Q: How long does it take to complete a project? A: It depends on the scope, but I always prioritize quality. I provide clear timelines at the start of every project and ensure open communication throughout to keep you informed of progress. Q: Can you work within my budget? A: I strive to offer flexible solutions that meet your needs. Let’s discuss your goals, and I’ll do my best to provide a service that fits your vision and budget without compromising on quality.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think creating a hit song or cinematic score happens overnight. In reality, it’s a meticulous process that involves not just creativity but also technical expertise, attention to detail, and collaboration.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What’s the story or emotion behind your project? Are there any reference tracks or specific sounds you envision? What’s your timeline and budget? These questions help me tailor my approach to fit the client’s needs precisely.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who not only has the technical skills but also understands your vision and brings passion to the project. Communication is key, so find a collaborator who listens to your ideas and provides clear, honest feedback.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across a variety of genres, including Cinematic, Electronic, Pop, and Rock. My versatility allows me to adapt my skills to fit the unique needs of each project, whether it’s a heartfelt ballad, an anthemic pop track, or an intense cinematic score.

Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring depth, emotion, and technical precision. My goal is to ensure that the song resonates both musically and emotionally, whether through a powerful topline, lush harmonies, evocative lyrics, or immersive production. My background in vocal performance and film composition allows me to infuse songs with cinematic and dynamic elements that stand out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the client’s vision through detailed discussions. From there, I create a blueprint for the project—whether that’s a melody, a lyrical theme, or a sonic palette. I layer ideas iteratively, ensuring constant feedback from the client to refine and perfect the final product. My process is collaborative and tailored to each project’s unique needs.
