Interview with Alborz music production

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project we’re especially proud of is our re-arrangement of the iconic symphonic pop piece "Above the Skies" (Bar Faraz-e Asemanha) by the legendary Iranian composer Anoushirvan Rohani. This piece holds a special place in Persian music history, but its sheet music was nowhere to be found, so we took on the challenge of transcribing it note by note from scratch. Our role included full music notation, re-arranging the piece to enhance its symphonic and pop elements, and handling the mixing and mastering to bring a fresh, modern sound while preserving its emotional core. We’re proud of this project because it allowed us to pay homage to a cultural masterpiece, showcase our skills in transcription and arrangement, and breathe new life into a timeless composition.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: We’re currently working on an exciting symphonic rock project inspired by the epic Persian love story of Khosrow and Shirin by Nizami Ganjavi. This project blends the grandeur of orchestral arrangements with the raw energy of rock, while weaving in traditional Persian melodies to honor the cultural depth of the story. It’s a challenging yet thrilling endeavor that allows us to showcase our expertise in merging classical, rock, and Eastern folk elements into a cohesive and emotionally powerful piece.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: We work primarily in a digital environment because it offers the flexibility and precision we need to bring our diverse projects to life. With genres ranging from pop and rock to classical and Persian or Eastern folk, digital tools like DAWs (such as Cubase) allow us to experiment with a wide range of sounds, layer traditional instruments with modern effects, and fine-tune every detail efficiently. Digital production also enables us to collaborate seamlessly with clients worldwide and deliver high-quality results quickly, which is essential for meeting tight deadlines without compromising on creativity.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Our promise to our clients is to deliver music that not only meets but exceeds their expectations, blending creativity, cultural authenticity, and professional quality in every project. We commit to understanding your vision deeply, collaborating closely with you, and bringing our 20+ years of expertise in pop, rock, classical, and Persian and Eastern folk to create a sound that’s uniquely yours. We’ll ensure timely delivery, open communication, and a final product that resonates with your audience on a profound level.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What we love most about our job is the opportunity to bring diverse musical worlds together, creating something truly unique with every project. There’s nothing more rewarding than blending the vibrant energy of pop and rock, the elegance of classical music, and the soulful traditions of Persian and Middle Eastern folk into a single track that resonates with listeners across cultures. Seeing how our music connects with people, evokes emotions, and tells a story is what drives us every day.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: The most common question we get from customers is: "Can you incorporate traditional Persian or Middle Eastern elements into a modern pop or rock track without losing its authenticity?" Our answer is always a resounding yes! With over 20 years of experience and a deep understanding of both contemporary and traditional music, we specialize in seamlessly blending these styles. We start by discussing the client’s vision, then carefully select instruments like the setar, oud, or daf, and pair them with modern production techniques to create a sound that’s both culturally rich and globally appealing.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: One of the biggest misconceptions about what we do is that blending diverse genres like pop, rock, classical, and Persian or Middle Eastern folk is a straightforward process. In reality, it requires a deep understanding of each genre’s nuances, cultural significance, and technical demands. Clients sometimes assume it’s just about layering sounds, but it’s a meticulous craft—we balance authenticity with innovation to create music that feels both timeless and fresh, ensuring every element resonates with the intended audience.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What is the main goal of your project, and what emotions are you aiming to evoke?   Are there specific genres or cultural influences you’d like to incorporate?   Do you have any reference tracks or artists that inspire your vision?   What is your timeline and budget for this project?   Are there any traditional instruments or sounds you’d like us to include, especially from Persian or Middle Eastern music?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Look for a team that truly understands your vision and can bring versatility to the table. Communication is key—make sure to share your goals, influences, and any cultural elements you want to highlight. With us, you’ll get a collaborative experience where we blend your ideas with our expertise in pop, rock, classical, and Middle Eastern folk to create something truly special. Don’t hesitate to ask for samples of our work to see if our style aligns with your project!

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: A high-quality acoustic guitar for its versatility in composing across genres.   A portable MIDI keyboard to craft melodies and harmonies on the go.   A laptop with our favorite DAW (like Ableton Live or Logic Pro) for production and arrangement.   A dynamic microphone (like a Shure SM58) to capture vocals and live instrument recordings.   A traditional Persian setar to keep our connection to folk roots and inspire authentic melodies.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: We are a dedicated team of music professionals, bringing together over 20 years of collective experience in the industry. Many of us are graduates of prestigious music programs, where we honed our craft in composition, performance, and production. Our journey began as individual artists, exploring genres like pop, rock, and classical music, before we united to form this collective with a shared passion for the rich traditions of Persian and Middle Eastern folk. Over the decades, we’ve worked on a wide range of projects, from contemporary pop and rock productions to orchestral arrangements and culturally inspired folk pieces, always striving to blend authenticity with innovation in every track we create.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Our style is a vibrant fusion of genres, blending the emotional depth of pop, the raw energy of rock, the timeless elegance of classical music, and the rich, soulful traditions of Persian and Middle Eastern folk. We specialize in creating music that resonates with diverse audiences, weaving cultural authenticity with modern production techniques to craft unique, captivating soundscapes.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Honestly, we don't have a wishlist. We're confident in our work to the point that we believe they should want to work with us. That might sound bold—but when you bring elite-level music education, originality, and experience to the table, it’s just the truth.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Master your harmony knowledge. No matter how good your plugins or sounds are, if your harmonic understanding is weak, your music won’t connect. Music theory isn't just academic—it's your foundation for creativity.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: We primarily work on pop, rock, classical, and Eastern folk music—especially styles rooted in the cultures of the Iranian Plateau. Our sound often blends traditional elements with modern production, creating a unique fusion that respects heritage while sounding fresh and current.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Our strongest skill is writing original compositions and professionally scoring music. We create intricate, emotionally resonant pieces that are rooted in strong harmonic foundations and advanced music theory. Every note is intentional, and every layer is crafted with precision.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: We bring a high level of musical intelligence and academic expertise to every song. Our team combines deep knowledge of composition, harmony, and orchestration with real-world experience, resulting in music that is both technically refined and emotionally impactful. Whether it's a pop track, a classical piece, or a folk arrangement, we deliver originality, structure, and soul.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: We start by understanding the client’s vision and musical influences—especially when working with culturally rooted or genre-blending pieces. Our process then moves into composition or arrangement, recording live instruments and vocals, and carefully mixing the track to preserve both clarity and emotional depth. For folk and Eastern music, we pay close attention to authenticity and traditional sound textures, while maintaining modern production standards.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Our studio is equipped for both modern and traditional production. We have a professionally treated space for recording vocals and acoustic instruments, including traditional instruments like oud and ney. Our gear includes high-end microphones (Neumann, AKG), audio interfaces (Universal Audio), and DAWs like Logic Pro and Pro Tools, alongside a curated collection of plugins and analog processors.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Our inspiration comes from a mix of global influences—artists and producers like The Beatles, Hans Zimmer, Max Martin, and also regional legends such as Fairuz, Mohammad Reza Shajarian, and Anouar Brahem. Their ability to tell emotional stories through music, and blend tradition with innovation, deeply shapes our creative direction.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: We are a diverse music production team specializing in pop, rock, classical, and Eastern folk music, including Middle Eastern traditional styles. Our most common projects involve full-track production—ranging from songwriting and arrangement to recording, mixing, and mastering. Whether it’s a radio-ready pop song, a rich classical piece, or an authentic folk arrangement, we bring the artist’s vision to life with care and creativity.
