I don’t know how to make type beats. The wildness, crunch, and density of my beats come from deep within the Amazon rainforest. 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
I am Onça — which means jaguar — a name I carry with pride from my mother’s side of the family. It is more than a name. It is my heritage, my identity, and the spirit behind everything I create.
I’ve been making rap instrumentals for 11 years, but only in the past few I allowed myself to sell them. I make music because I love it. I sell because I need to. But I never compromise the art for the market.
I do not make type beats. I never have. I don’t follow formulas, trends, or shortcuts. From the start, I’ve given myself full creative freedom to follow my influences and lived experiences — and those are deeply rooted in the place I come from.
I live in the Brazilian Amazon, in the northern state of Pará. The flag in my profile picture represents that. Up here, our culture is unlike anything else in the world — vibrant, raw, and rich. Like the Northeast of Brazil, we have our own musical universe. It would be unfair of me to drink from these unique sources and simply imitate what’s already out there.
All my beats are built with samples, always. I used to lose a lot of them in the early days. Now, the thrill comes from transforming sound until it becomes unrecognizable. My vinyl collection is filled with Caribbean, Andean, and Latin records — and that’s where my textures come from. These beats are raw, gritty, and dense. You can hear the dust, the history, the jungle.
