Interview with DR OSMEENOG Music Producer
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The song "exhale smoke". I will tell you about it, because so far I have uploaded it to this resource. I am proud that I came up with the hook, wrote the beat, defined the style, chose the mood and direction of the song and was able to recreate it through instruments and voice. I managed to convey the dark and aggressive mood of my lyrical heroes. I also worked as a lead music producer, mix engineer, sound designer. My partner wrote the lyrics. There was also a project called blessings. 🔥 Breaking Genre Boundaries This track merges U.K. Drill, Grime, Electro Trap, and Experimental music into a new subgenre: Future Drill. 🎹 From Melody to Masterpiece It all started with a piano melody, evolving into a dynamic and aggressive composition. The drums hit faster and harder than typical U.K. Drill, creating an intense, high-energy sound. 🎛️ Bold Sound Design Replacing standard hi-hats, the hook features electronic plucky percussion, delivering a fresh and rhythmic groove. This track pushes boundaries, setting the stage for the future of hip-hop.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on my own concept album. Also on a series of commercial songs in the amount of 20 pieces. I write beats, come up with styles, concepts. I help my partner with the recording of his LP
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: for now I work with digital equipment and programs. Because it is more accessible and mobile. This is important for me, because I often travel and I need to have my studio at hand. But in the future I plan to switch to analog sound. Because it is more lively, atmospheric, sensual, real. It is more pleasant and fun to work with such equipment. Dreams
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: 💠I listen, feel, and bring your vision to life in a way that resonates deep inside 💫 It’s not just about creating something polished—it's about making something that feels uniquely yours and speaks to your soul. Music that hits different and sticks with your audience. 💔🎵 Work on time 🔹 24 hours for beat creation — Your fresh beat, in less than a day, that matches your vision. ⏱️🎶 🔹 3-5 days for song writing — Complete, polished lyrics and structure, crafted with your ideas in mind. ✍️🎤 🔹 6 hours for mixing & mastering — Professional sound quality, making sure your track is radio-ready. 🎧🔊 🔹 6 hours for sound design — Unique, custom sounds that make your track stand out from the crowd. 💥🔊 💥 A successful track at any cost. The commercial success of the song is important to me. After all, your success is my success. This is a guarantee of long-term cooperation. I am focused on long-term and productive business. Therefore, I do everything possible and impossible for this. 🎶 A sound that conveys all your uniqueness, style, your vision, and message to listeners. I work with you to create a sound that reflects your identity and connects with your audience. 🔥 A unique and new sound. I don’t work according to old patterns. Each song is a new life for me. I constantly update my templates. But at the same time, my work is automated at the proper level, and I do everything on time. ⏱️ Clear communication — We discuss every step to make sure it’s exactly what you want.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love creating songs, translating stories into melodies, words and sounds. Conveying moods and creating entire worlds within a single song. I love making a new creative statement of myself as an artist with each song. I love every aspect of making music. I love everything about music. It's all I know how to do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: 1. How long does it take to create a track? Well, it depends on the project. I can make a beat in a day if you have a clear vision. Full work — lyrics, mixing, mastering — usually takes around 5-7 days. I don't drag things out, but I do like everything to sound just right. 2. Can you make the sound like [famous artist]? Of course! But honestly, it's better to create something with your own individuality instead of a copy. Why go for a clone when we can create a unique vibe? 3. What’s included in the price? It’s simple: you pay for the whole process — beat, sound design, mixing, mastering. I can also make a cover and help with lyrics if needed. If you want something special, we’ll discuss it separately. 4. Can I use the track commercially? Yes, it’s your music, do whatever you want with it. If you want exclusivity, I'll make sure the track belongs only to you. Licensing and rights are discussed upfront, so everything is clear. 5. How does working with you go? First, we have a call or chat — you tell me what you want. Then I create the first version. You listen, tell me what you like/dislike, and we refine it until we get that banger. 6. Do you help with lyrics and ideas? Of course! If you’re struggling with lyrics or the concept, I’m here to help. Sometimes I clean up ideas or suggest my own take — it’s always faster and better when we work together. 7. How many revisions can we do? As many as you want, as long as it's reasonable. I'm all about making the track perfect, but if we start redoing it 10 times, that’s basically a new project. 8. What if the result doesn't meet expectations? Look, I always aim for my client to be happy. If, for some reason, it doesn’t work for you, we can talk it through and refine it. I’m focused on your satisfaction — because if you're happy, that’s a win for me. 9. Can we stick to my budget? Here’s the deal: I’ll take a look at what you want and we’ll make it work. I’m open to adjusting if the project interests me, but I also know the value of my time and experience. We can always negotiate. 10. Do you do full-track production? Yes, from start to finish: beat, vocal recording, mixing, mastering. If you need, I can recommend artists for recording and handle the entire project. Just let me know what you want, and I’ll make it happen.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do as a music producer is thinking that I simply create beats or push buttons on a computer. Many people underestimate the depth of this profession and don’t realize that a producer is the architect of the entire composition. Here’s what my work truly involves: 1. Crafting the concept. A producer doesn’t just create melodies or beats; I shape the mood and energy of the track. This means understanding the emotions the artist wants to convey and translating them into sound. 2. Overseeing the process. I guide the recording of vocals, arrange the instrumentation, design unique sounds, and refine the track to captivate listeners. 3. Technical expertise. From mixing to mastering and balancing acoustics, I ensure the track achieves professional quality and stands out. It’s not just about sound creation—it’s about storytelling, vision, and delivering an experience that resonates.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Genre – Specify the genre (Pop, Trap, etc.) References Style What is the song about? Mood/Emotion Purpose – Where will it be used? Deadline – Additional Requests
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you're looking to hire a music producer like me, here’s some advice to ensure a successful collaboration: 1. Clearly define your ideas and expectations. Share the vibe, emotions, and vision you want your track to convey. The more details you provide, the better the final result will align with your goals. 2. Review the portfolio. Make sure the producer’s style and quality match your expectations. Look for versatility and their ability to adapt to different genres. 3. Trust their expertise. You’re hiring a professional to elevate your music. Allow some creative freedom—it can take your track to the next level. 4. Discuss all details upfront. Clarify deadlines, costs, revision policies, track ownership, and the production process. Transparency avoids misunderstandings. 5. Be open to feedback. Collaboration is key. While your input is crucial, listen to the expert’s perspective to create the best version of your song. 6. Allow time for revisions. Even if the first draft sounds great, small tweaks can make a huge difference in perfecting your track. By following these tips, you'll find a producer who can not only deliver high-quality music but also bring your creative vision to life.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: macbook, Microphone, energy generator, sound card, headphones
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in 2016. I was writing lyrics for my first songs. I was 13 years old then. Then in 2018, I started writing beats at FL Studio 11. I worked in the style of the West Coast, old school, Eminem, Hopsin, Dr. Dre. Then I started mastering trap, new school, cloud rap. Here I was already writing my songs along with lyrics and beats. In 2018, I entered the university to study music education. There I mastered music theory, harmony, solfeggio, learned to sing at a professional level. In 2021, I began participating in numerous vocal competitions with rock songs. Then I started collaborating with familiar artists from my circle of friends and making beats for them to order. In 2022, I created my own production center Smoky Head Media in collaboration with my friend, a songwriter. We started collaborating with artists from Russia, writing songs for them and selling them through our own network of contacts. Then two more singers and songwriters joined us. Our association is still working.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotional, Experimental, Individual, New, Message to Society
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Kanye West. It's all because of his unconventional approach, creativity and lack of desire to do what the masses expect from him. Individuality I would also love to work with Eminem. I would like to pack a deep story inside a song
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be Yourself
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-Hop, Popular Music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music Production
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: In each song, I try to embody the individual idea of the artist and create something new that will leave its mark on art. The content of any non-obvious techniques and tricks is important to me. I don’t have two identical songs. Each song is a new life. I do all this by working closely with the artist’s references, immersing myself in his image, immersing myself in the theme and problems of the song, selecting sounds and instruments to create an atmosphere, selecting melodies, arrangements, rhythms and effects on sound tracks I evaluate songs from the listener’s point of view and consult with my focus group about each song, so that the song resonates in the hearts of the target audience
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I receive a technical assignment, which specifies the reference track, mood, genre, theme of the song, approximate structure (verses, choruses). I work with references, noting important details for myself. I highlight what the artist wants to tell and choose instruments to emphasize the individual features of the performer. For example, he has a soft and melancholic image. This means you should use soft instruments, a guitar, something atmospheric, make a slightly more intricate arrangement to show the rich inner world of the artist. Or, if he is aggressive and harsh, then I will use louder and harsher arrangements, simpler and more repetitive melodies to emphasize his strength and confidence. I also take into account his temperament. It is important for me that the song and the artist become one. Then, having an approximate picture and idea of the future song in my head, I begin to create the instrumental. First, the selection of instruments to create the right atmosphere and mood. I rely on references. Then the melody, chords, drums. I send the artist a demo. I collect feedback and make any necessary edits, if any. For me, again, it is important that the song resonates with the artist. Then I create a hook and from the hook I build the rest of the song structure. Pre-Mixing Then feedback Edits Vocals Merge instrumental and vocals Mixing Mastering
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I made my own studio. I took acoustic measurements, worked on the acoustic design of the room and made acoustic panels and bass traps. My monitors are KRK ROKIT RP5 G4. MIDI keyboard Studiologic SL 88, microphone RODE NT-2A, headphones beyerdynamics DT 990 PRO and a large table, a powerful PC.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by Kanye West. I like his versatility and multifacetedness. I am especially captivated by his contribution to the development of music and the creation of new directions in music such as Cloud Rap, Trap, Industrial Rap, and so on. I also plan to create something new that will leave a deep mark on music. I am also inspired by Travis Scott. I like the way he plays with the listener's perception and creates a whole world inside one song using certain sounds, instruments, melodies, effects. I am very inspired by Eminem. I am captivated by his ability to tell stories inside songs, rhyme skills and line composition. Multi-syllabic wordplay, references, and more. It is as if he creates a song with one meaning, but if you decipher the non-obvious code that he put into it, a completely different side of the same song is revealed
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly create beats, loops, write melodies, arrangements and the overall idea and theme of the song. This is what I do best. I usually work from references, but often I create my own sound and style, which I have not yet come up with a name for myself. I always try to implement a new vision for music. It is important to me that the music I make for myself or for others resonates with the listener and makes their heart beat faster and leaves a mark on their heart. In their mind. I am also good at mixing and sound design
