Interview with s1ms

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My upcoming EP with Circus Records. Securing a full EP as an emerging artist on one of the top bass labels in the scene was a major milestone.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My mentorship program with multiple active students, along with ongoing ghost production projects and my own artist releases.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I’ve worked with many talented professionals on SoundBetter and am always happy to recommend people based on the specific needs of a project.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have value, but I focus heavily on digital because that’s how most modern electronic music is produced and consumed.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I go beyond satisfaction. My goal is for every client to feel the record we create together is one of the strongest in their catalog.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I was born to produce. Creating music and helping others level up is what I’m passionate about.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Turnaround time. My answer is that quality and consistency come first, and I always communicate timelines clearly before starting.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That ghost producers don’t enjoy their work. I genuinely enjoy the collaborative and business side of helping artists execute their vision.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask detailed questions about goals, influences, references, strengths, weaknesses, and workflow so I can fully understand the creative vision before starting.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who has a real body of work outside of freelancing — an actual artist career or release history — not just service demos.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: MacBook Pro, high-quality monitoring headphones, Ableton Live, Serum 1, and FabFilter Pro-Q3.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been producing since I was 12 years old. Much of my early development was private and skill-focused before moving fully into an artist and professional production career.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Balanced, polished, and high-impact. I prioritize clarity, tight low-end, strong dynamics, and mixes that translate well across systems.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Vanic. He was one of my earliest inspirations and continues to set a high bar for melodic depth, sound design, and artistic integrity.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Finish decisions early. Don’t write a sketch assuming you’ll “fix it later” in sound design or mixing. Make each stage strong enough to stand on its own. If the writing works without polish, the record will feel intentional at every level.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I’m highly genre-diverse with roots in melodic bass, but I regularly work across UK dubstep, future bass, house, tech house, trap, and hybrid bass music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Songwriting and arrangement.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Technical precision, strong musical instincts, and a professional finishing mindset. I focus on clarity, impact, and emotion while keeping everything balanced and competitive.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I’m extremely detail-oriented and focus on extracting maximum value from every stage of production. I approach every stage of production as if I won’t have access to the next stage. When I’m writing, I assume I won’t get a second chance to arrange. When I’m arranging, I assume I won’t get a second chance to sound design. When I’m sound designing, I assume I won’t get a second chance to mix. When I’m mixing, I assume I won’t get a second chance to master. This mindset forces each step to stand on its own and results in records that feel intentional, polished, and finished.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from a professional home studio and spend a lot of time producing on the road. My main setup centers around a MacBook Pro, high-quality monitoring headphones, and a streamlined Ableton-based workflow focused on speed, consistency, and translation.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Artists like Illenium, Flume, Zeds Dead, and Taiki Nulight inspire me for their dedication to craft, originality, and ability to evolve while maintaining a strong artistic identity.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I primarily work on ghost production and custom record creation for artists, building professional, label-ready tracks across melodic bass, UK dubstep, future bass, house, and trap. I also work extensively through 1-on-1 mentorship, helping DJs and artists learn to produce at a professional level, covering songwriting, sound design, arrangement, mixing, workflow development, and finishing records.
