Interview with Alex Britt

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I typically work on modern metal and rock though my work spans multiple genres and am always looking for the next artist I can level up.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: I often get complimented on my low end being very clean, wide, and tight. I love a fuller sounding mix with thick bass and wide low mids!

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I believe every song is different and requires it own unique treatment. I alter my workflow based on the song needs. We generally arrive with a result that is super modern and polished, but retains the band's identity.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Typically I will start with a test mix for new clients. I can be sent a working session, or a broken out multi track. I like to talk to the band before I start to get a feel of what they are going for, and often will get reference tracks. Once the initial mix is finished, I will send it off the band for feedback and we will begin the revision process.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work in a professionally treated room that is additionally optimized with a Trinnov giving me the most accurate system possible. I work in a hybrid setup utilizing outboard gear as well as digital processing.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I am heavily inspired everyday by all of the current metal mixers that are killing it right now. Some of my favorites are Zakk Cervini, Buster Odeholm, & Will Putney.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I most commonly Mix / Master remotely for my clients and occasionally Produce / Engineer in person.
