Interview with Oliver Illes

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: My strongest skill is blending technical expertise with creativity while understanding the artist’s vision. I have a strong sense of empathy and the ability to ‘read the room,’ allowing me to connect with the music and bring out its fullest potential. By combining precision, intuition, and innovative thinking, I help shape songs in a way that feels both authentic and impactful

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: I strive to find that unique element that makes a song truly stand out. Whether it’s a subtle touch or a bold, unconventional choice, I’m always looking for ways to elevate the track and bring out its full potential. Sometimes that means thinking outside the box, experimenting with fresh ideas, or making bold creative decisions to give the song its own authentic character. My goal is to shape the music in a way that captivates listeners, sparks excitement, and creates an emotional connection.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I start by carefully listening to the music and getting a feel for the artist’s style and vision. Understanding their creative direction is key, so I take the time to discuss their goals and sonic preferences. From there, I use my expertise in mixing, production, and arrangement to bring their ideas to life—enhancing the track while staying true to their artistic intent. My approach is always a blend of technical precision and creative intuition, ensuring the final result not only meets but exceeds expectations.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I work mostly in the box, but I have acces to the best analog hardware compressors and EQs like the Shadow Hills Mastering Compessor, the Elysia Museq or preamps like the Millenia HV-3D, Manley Voxbox or the Avalon AD-2022. So sometimes I go hybrid as well. It depends on the project or on my mood :)

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Andrew Scheps, Manny Marroquin, Alan Meyerson, Benny Blanco, Joe Rubel, WZRD BLD, Al Schmitt

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Mostly mixing, recording or producing
