I'm a professional drummer and beatmaker, in love with black music, reggae, funk and pop. I love to record in my studio, it allows me to be creative.
Hi, I'm Giovanni and I'm a drummer since I was 13 years old.
My passion for studio sessions starts more than 10 years ago, and since then I made my studio knowledge really solid and consistent.
I improved my skills in different areas of this beautiful job: drum tuning, mic position, room acoustic treatment, cymbals and snares choice, muffling ecc ecc.. Everything supported by daily study of drums, composing, producing, mixing, mastering and other instrument (guitar, bass, keyboards, percussions).
With my bands I love to compose and produce our own songs, so I can have a clear vision of the final result when I record my drums.
My goal is to take your ideas to a better level and a convincing drum sound.
Please don't hesitate to ask me anything you need before we start working together. Communication is the key!

Interview with Giovanni "Jack" Chierici
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: In 2023 I record a great instrumental funk album where brass are leaders in each track. The cool thing was that he producer let me play everything I want without asking any changes, and it was super creative and stimulating for me. I was the drummer of that album: The Boogyeman - Ermanno Fabbri
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm producing and recording a new EP for my indie-pop band (Mardy Lava)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, acoustic guitar player Gabriele Cento.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, because you can't work with digital if you don't know the theory of analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll take your idea to the next level: Your demo song will turn into a professional song
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being creative with my kit: towels, bells, strange drumsticks, bizarre grooves.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I can "save" a bad song. If a song doesn't have a direction, there's no drummer who can fix that.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Musical genres, song/artist reference, favorite artist/drummers, witch instruments will be in the final song.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to chat a bit with the musician. Music is made by common feelings, not just gear and skills.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Drums, Macbook, 2 channel audio interface, a kick microphone and a Overhead microphone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started study drums in 2003, enter in the best music school in Italy (CPM) in 2008, graduated in 2013, live as a full time musician since 2010. My first professional studio recording session was in 2011 and since then I push my knowledge up to a great level. I work in my studio and other professional studios in my city.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Funk and groovie but in the mix.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Vulfepck. They do great songs, awesome recording techniques and work with amazing drummers.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Your instrument is only a part of the entire ensemble. Don't be too much, less is more.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Different musical genre: pop, pop-rock, indie-pop, reggae, funk, soul, rnb.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Groove, timing, sound and ensemble vision.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: First of all I bring consistency, solid groove and sound. I also want to put my ideas in the client's song, but respecting his/her guide lines.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the client song for the first time, chat with him to be sure we have the same vision of the song, listen other 2 or 3 times and write down the chart. Then I jam a bit with the song, and when I'm sure of different part I make my recording session. Usually I go with 2 or 3 takes, to have some choice.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got two beautiful Yamaha OAK X Custom drum set, one big and one small. My studio is my creative and recreating space, for my music, others music and great projects. With my10 channels recording setup, I can reach the spot I want and the definition I need for a professional take.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Steve Jordan, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Nate Smith, Alborosie, Vulfpeck, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Bob Marley, Ash Soan.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually receive a guide line song (guitar and vox, piano and vox, midi drums) and record my real drums on it.
