Matt Wang

Mixing/Mastering or Production

Matt Wang on SoundBetter

Has worked with Mk.gee, Juliet Ivy, and Dreamer Isioma among others. Graduated from USC Thornton School of Music’s Popular music program, and am well versed in production, part writing, mixing, mastering, and top-lining.

I like to work more holistically, letting the vision for a song be the roadmap for our decisions rather than technicality or “rules.”

Over the years, I’ve found countless ways to record and mix my instruments in unique and interesting ways. I work in Ableton and am very well versed in songwriting, production, mixing, and mastering.

I wrote, produced, and mixed, and mastered everything under my artist page Mei Jun. I also uploaded some unreleased tracks on here that are definitely more rock focused. Feel free to check those out too.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Matt Wang

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: Do you have a vision for what you want the song to sound like? Can you give me specific references? It makes both of our lives 10x easier if you already have a direction and are set with your decision.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: At the end of the day, you’re trying to communicate an emotion, and that should be the only thing informing your decision making along the way. Remove all technical or physical impulses, and lead with the emotional space first.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I’d like to think I bring a level of creative integrity to a song - being honest about what serves a song and what doesn’t.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: A lot of times, the hardest part of the process is getting on the same page about a direction. I usually want to take my time with this, really finding something that we both feel confident in. Once the direction is baked in, the rest usually comes pretty easily (unless we start changing the direction a bunch throughout the process lol).

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I have a handful of instruments and microphones that are special to me, and I try to find all my creative solutions within that limited selection. I put down some gear highlights, should be somewhere on my page.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Even though I like the songwriting process the most, I usually do some combination of production and mixing. People usually come with a song written already.
