I worked together with Amanda. It was really amazing. First of all, she is SUCH a talented songwriter and second of all, she is just an incredible person. She was able to write the lyrics that I was not able to put down. I let her know what kind of music it was that I wanted to make, and she just nailed it. Everytime. She listens and takes in what you need and comes up with perfection.

Interview with Amanda Wourms (ASHES)

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I have been writing songs since I was 5-years-old. It's part of my daily routine. The best part of my job is that it doesn't feel like a job. This is just what I do and it's part of who I am - and I love doing it.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Don't get hung up on the biographies and work experience... Listen to their work, and if it sounds good and you like what you hear, hire them. There is so much talent out there that gets overlooked. The reason you want a songwriter is for good songs. And you never know... maybe they are climbing up in the industry and about to get a major break. It's best to develop a good relationship with talented, up-and-coming artists and songwriters BEFORE they get big... Then you will have that relationship for a lifetime.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: For songwriting... well written lyrics create imagery and mood. Too many generic lines: "you are my everything", "baby", "break my heart", "Girl, you are my world" will make your song forgettable. Don't be afraid to play around with new words and lines & phrases.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I take some time to write every day... Sometimes it's the melody that comes first, other times I just grab a pen and let the lyrics flow. If I'm having trouble coming up with something, I usually either grab the guitar or sit down at the piano and just play until I get an idea. I usually record my initial ideas into my iPhone, then edit and revise until I have a rough draft written. I get my editor to listen and go through lyrics, revise a bit more, then my producer and I record the demo into Pro Tools. The song gets sent to my publisher, and hopefully gets placed with an artist or in a film or television series. And the cycle continues... we never stop making music - it's just what we do. And we love it.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Songwriting - I love writing lyrics.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: Professional lyrics, catchy melodies, creativity, expertise & efficiency, and quality recorded vocals.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Catchy, universal, moody, relatable... sometimes dark. Sometimes sexy. It depends on the project, really.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Pop, R&B, EDM, Alternative Rock, Country, Indie Rock, and Adult Contemporary.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Dr. Dre, Eminem, Elvis Costello, Max Martin, Paul Simon, Chris Stapleton, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Tool, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Dixie Chicks, Corb Lund... the list goes on and on.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I write songs and provide studio vocals (leads & harmonies).
