Interview with DJMago305
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is my work at Mojitos Calle 8 in Miami. I was responsible for curating the music, producing exclusive remixes, and performing live DJ sets that blended Afro, Latin, and electronic sounds. This project was significant because I helped define the club’s musical identity and create unique, unforgettable experiences for the audience. Seeing people connect with the energy and vibe of the nights was incredibly rewarding.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I’m working on new Afro and Tech House tracks, experimental remixes, and exclusive edits that are not yet released on digital platforms. I’m also developing content for live DJ sets, combining music production with innovative visuals and storytelling, aiming to create unique, immersive experiences for clubs, festivals, and online audiences.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’ve had the opportunity to work with talented artists and producers, and while I don’t endorse specific names publicly, I always recommend that clients look for professionals who combine technical skill, creativity, and reliability. On SoundBetter, there are many creators who meet these standards — it’s important to choose someone who aligns with your vision and the energy you want to achieve.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work with both analog and digital equipment, because each brings unique strengths. Analog gear adds warmth, character, and organic depth to the sound, while digital tools like FL Studio, Ableton Live, and PreSonus give precision, flexibility, and the ability to experiment quickly. Combining both allows me to create powerful, detailed, and emotional music that works in the studio and on the dance floor. I’m also entering the AI era, which I see as a huge opportunity. AI provides speed, precision, and new ways to experiment, and when combined with my years of experience in analog, digital, and live performance, the results are truly powerful and creative. I believe AI is a tool that can elevate music production without replacing the human touch.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to clients is simple: to deliver music and experiences that exceed expectations. Every track, remix, or set is crafted with creativity, precision, and emotion, ensuring it connects with the audience and leaves a lasting impression. I guarantee originality, quality, and energy in every project.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is creating moments that move people, whether it’s in a club, festival, or studio. I enjoy transforming ideas into music, crafting grooves, and connecting emotionally with the audience. Every track, remix, or set is an opportunity to share energy, tell a story, and leave a lasting impact through sound.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Common questions from clients include: Can you create a track or set in a specific style or genre? — Yes, I specialize in Afro House, Tech House, and Latin-infused electronic music, and I adapt to each client’s vision. How long does it take to produce a track or remix? — It depends on complexity, but I always focus on quality, energy, and impact. Can you customize music for an event or audience? — Absolutely, I design sets and productions that connect with the crowd and fit the event’s energy. Do you provide remixes or exclusive tracks? — Yes, I create exclusive remixes and experimental tracks not available on other platforms. My answer: I always emphasize that my work is about creating an experience, not just music. Every track or set is crafted with creativity, groove, and emotion, designed to move people and leave a lasting impression.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that being a DJ or producer is just pressing buttons or playing tracks. In reality, it’s about curating experiences, reading the crowd, creating emotion, and crafting music with intention. Every set, remix, or production involves creativity, technical skill, and deep understanding of rhythm and energy. It’s a craft that connects people through sound.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When I work with clients, I ask questions to understand their vision, audience, and goals. Key questions include: What type of event or project is this for? Who is the audience or target listener? What mood or energy do you want to create? Are there specific tracks, genres, or influences you want included? What is the timeline and budget for the project? These questions help me deliver a customized, memorable experience that meets expectations and elevates the project.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice is to look for someone who not only has technical skills but also understands energy, emotion, and audience connection. Music is more than notes and beats — it’s about creating an experience. Choose a provider who listens, adapts, and brings originality, groove, and professionalism to every project. That way, your event or track will stand out and leave a lasting impression.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were on a desert island, my 5 essential pieces of gear would be: PreSonus Studio Interface – for professional recording and mixing. FL Studio – for full music production anywhere. Ableton Live – for arranging tracks and experimenting with ideas. Pioneer CDJ-3000 – the core of any DJ performance. KRK Monitors – to hear every detail and make sure the sound is perfect. With these, I could produce, mix, and perform no matter the environment.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started my career as a DJ in my hometown, experimenting with mixing and creating unique rhythms from a young age. Over the years, I progressed from local events to residencies in clubs and festivals, always blending Afro, Latin, and electronic sounds. I’ve been producing music professionally for over 30 years, evolving from vinyl and CDJs to Serato DJ Pro, and expanding into music production, remixing, and live performances worldwide.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style blends Afro House, Tech House, and Latin-infused electronic music with tribal rhythms, deep grooves, and hypnotic textures. I focus on creating tracks that are danceable, emotional, and immersive, designed to move the crowd and take them on a journey. Whether in the studio or live on the decks, my sound is energetic, soulful, and uniquely my own.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Black Coffee, Calclax, and Carl Cox. Black Coffee inspires me with deep Afro rhythms and emotional depth, Calclax brings experimental textures and bold energy, and Carl Cox is a master of dynamic DJ performance and high-energy techno. Collaborating with them would allow me to blend grooves, rhythms, and atmospheres, creating tracks that connect both emotionally and physically with the audience.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One tip I always follow is: start with the groove, not the melody. Build your rhythm and percussion first — once the foundation feels right, layering basslines, melodies, and textures becomes natural. A strong groove makes a track danceable, energetic, and memorable before anything else.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Afro House, Tech House, and Latin-infused electronic music, blending tribal rhythms, deep grooves, and melodic textures. I also create remixes and experimental tracks, pushing boundaries while keeping the music danceable and emotionally engaging. My focus is always on delivering powerful, energetic, and memorable music for clubs, festivals, and digital platforms.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is creating music that connects with people on the dance floor and in the studio. I excel at blending grooves, rhythms, and textures to craft tracks that are both energetic and emotive. Whether it’s a remix, original production, or live set, I focus on delivering a unique sound experience that moves the crowd and stays memorable.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring energy, emotion, and a unique groove to every song. My goal is to make the listener feel the music in their body and soul, whether it’s a club track, a remix, or an experimental piece. I focus on creating rhythm, atmosphere, and dynamic flow that transforms a simple track into an experience — a signature sound that only comes from years of performing, producing, and connecting with people on the dance floor.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process always starts with a feeling or a groove — a rhythm that sets the tone for everything. From there, I build the track step by step: drums first, then bass, atmosphere, and melodic textures. I use FL Studio and PreSonus Studio One for production, and Ableton Live for arrangement and live testing. Once the track has energy and flow, I move to mixing and mastering to make sure it hits perfectly on the dance floor. It’s all about balance — soul, sound, and precision.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work revolves around music production, DJ performance, and sound design for live events, festivals, and special projects. I create custom remixes, Afro and Tech House sets, and original tracks that bring a unique energy to each client’s brand or event. My goal is always to deliver a powerful musical experience that connects people through rhythm and emotion.
