Interview with 999biggie
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of composing two tracks on Kalash Criminel’s album Selection Naturelle, which went on to be certified Gold. This project is significant to me because it marks one of my first professional placements at the age of 19. Seeing the success of this album was a defining moment in my career, and it continues to inspire me to push the boundaries of my work.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I’m working on several exciting projects: composing for various artists, mixing tracks, and offering beatmaking and mixing training. I’m also developing new content concepts for social media, which are starting to take shape and generate buzz.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment, I’m deeply involved in several exciting projects, including compositions for various artists, mixing, and offering beatmaking and mixing training. I’m also developing new content concepts for social media, which are starting to take shape.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to always deliver high-quality, tailor-made work in full collaboration with my clients. I am committed to listening closely to their needs, remaining responsive throughout the entire project, and providing a production that meets their expectations. The final result will be professional, polished, and ready for distribution. My goal is to create something authentic and powerful that truly resonates with them.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is the limitless creativity. Every project is unique, and I thrive in the process of bringing an idea to life, whether it’s crafting a specific atmosphere, finding the perfect sound balance, or blending unexpected influences. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how my music resonates with others, whether it’s an artist, a director, or a listener. And there’s that adrenaline rush every time a track takes shape and starts to sound exactly as I envisioned it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “How long will it take?” “Typically, I deliver a first version within 3 business days, depending on the complexity of the project. After that, we can make adjustments with revisions if needed.” “Can you do [this style]?” “Yes, I’m comfortable working with a variety of styles, especially hip-hop, trap, and hybrid fusions. If you have reference tracks, I can use them as inspiration to ensure the vibe you’re looking for is captured.” “Do you also do mixing and mastering?” “Absolutely! I offer a full-service package, delivering a professional mix and master ready for distribution.” “How many revisions are included?” “I include two revisions to fine-tune the project. In 99% of cases, if we’ve clearly defined your expectations upfront, this is more than enough.” “Will I own the rights to the production?” “It depends on the agreement we make. If you’re looking for full exclusivity, that’s definitely possible, and we can discuss the details.” “What if I’m not satisfied?” “My goal is to ensure you’re 100% happy with the result. We communicate thoroughly from the start to avoid any issues, but if something isn’t right, we’ll work together to find a solution.”
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: 1. How do you envision your project? (What genre, vibe, and emotions do you want to convey?) 2. Are there any references or artists that inspire the direction of this track? (Any specific influences or sounds you’re aiming for?) 3. What type of project is this for? (Single, album, commercial, video game, podcast, etc.) 4. Are there any essential elements you want to include? (A specific instrument, melody, sample, etc. that must be part of the final product?) 5. What’s your timeline and budget like? (Just to ensure we’re on the same page from the start.) 6. Do you want a ready-to-release production, or something that you’ll want to tweak and refine further? (Are you looking for a finished track, or a work-in-progress that you’ll revisit?) 7. When adjustments are needed, do you prefer trying various approaches, or do you want to stick to a clear, focused direction? 8. Are there any elements you’d like to avoid? (Any style, sound, or vibe you don’t want to include?)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice to a client looking to hire someone like me would be to first clearly define the specific needs of your project. Having a precise vision helps save time and ensures the outcome meets your expectations. Next, trust your intuition: choose a provider you feel a good connection with, someone who inspires you and makes you excited about the collaboration.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My passion for music began in childhood, around the age of 7, when I discovered the drums and heavy metal. The raw energy of this genre immediately fascinated me, and I spent hours replicating the rhythms of my favorite bands. At 12, I became drawn to music production, particularly influenced by rap and trap. Self-taught, I started creating my first beats on FL Studio, inspired by tracks like “Ima Boss” by Meek Mill and Rick Ross. Over time, I set up a home studio, which gave me the opportunity to collaborate with artists, helping me improve and eventually build my own professional studio while deepening my production knowledge. After finishing high school in 2018, I decided to take my passion seriously by enrolling in a sound technician and engineering program. This training provided me with the technical vocabulary and an in-depth understanding of the practical aspects of music production. At the same time, I worked with independent artists, expanding both my artistic and business skills. In 2019, I signed my first publishing contract, opening the door to the professional music industry. This allowed me to collaborate with established artists and labels. Then, in 2022, I completed a business course in music to master every aspect of the industry, from contract negotiation to production and publishing. As an independent publisher, I now manage my projects autonomously and advocate for the interests of the artists I work with. Over the years, I have expanded my musical horizons beyond hip-hop and rap, experimenting with hybrid compositions that blend rock, metal, and electronic music. This diversity enriches my creations and allows me to collaborate with a wide range of artists. I am also currently playing bass, an instrument that adds depth to my compositions and enables me to explore new creative dimensions. My musical journey is defined by this variety of genres and collaborations, which has become my strength in offering unique projects and adapting to different artistic worlds.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kurt Cobain – Working with Kurt would be an incredible opportunity to dive into the authenticity and raw emotion that defined grunge. His ability to convey deep vulnerability and unfiltered emotion through his music is unparalleled. For me, collaborating with him would be a chance to capture that essence and create something truly powerful and sincere, resonating not only with fans but also with the very soul of the artist. A collaboration with Kurt would be more than just a musical experience; it would be an exploration of the intangible, of what truly moves the human heart.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My main piece of advice in music production is to simplify compositions. Adopting a “less is more” approach not only helps create more impactful tracks but also timeless ones. By reducing unnecessary elements, you highlight the key components of the song, such as the vocals or main instruments. Simplicity and minimalism are not just powerful aesthetic choices but also a way to engage the listener, allowing each sound to breathe and express a deeper emotion. This creates tracks that resonate longer in the listener’s mind.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily specialize in Hip-Hop and Trap music, while also exploring a wide range of other styles. My experience allows me to adapt to different genres, ensuring that I can meet the unique needs of each project.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill lies in my ability to blend different styles and influences to create unique productions tailored to each project. Whether it’s composition, mixing, or sound design, I have a keen eye for detail while maintaining a big-picture vision to ensure the project stays cohesive. My flexibility and ability to adapt to the specific needs of my clients are key strengths that I always bring to every track, ensuring a final result that exceeds their expectations.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: What I bring to a song is a unique signature that blends creativity, emotion, and technical expertise. My goal is to enhance the soul of each track, creating arrangements that are both subtle and powerful, while leaving room for the essence of the song to shine through. Whether it’s through original sound choices, precise mixing, or meticulous attention to detail, I ensure that the final result is not only memorable but deeply impactful.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process begins with a thorough analysis of the project requirements to fully understand the client’s specific needs. From the very start, I prioritize proactive and transparent communication to ensure we’re aligned at every stage of the process. Once the first version is delivered, I offer additional revisions to make any necessary adjustments. My goal is to collaborate closely with the client throughout, ensuring the final result perfectly matches their vision and expectations
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is designed to deliver optimal sound quality at every stage of the production process. I use a dual pair of KRK and Mixcube speakers, which provide precise and balanced sound. For deep bass frequencies, I work with a KRK Sub, ideal for accurately reproducing low-end details. My Apollo Twins audio interface ensures exceptional clarity and precision, while the Slate Digital ML-1 microphone captures every detail with professional-grade quality. The Roland AX Synth adds a creative touch, allowing me to explore a wide range of sounds and textures. Additionally, I have a Millenium MPS-850 E electronic drum kit for powerful rhythms, as well as two electric basses – a Jackson David Ellefson and a Ventage 90’s
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw inspiration from a variety of musical styles. In hip-hop, producers like 808 Mafia, TM88, Deedotwill, Southside, Murda, Deezy, and Thraxx have greatly influenced my sound approach. On the metal side, legends such as Cliff Burton, Kurt Cobain, Marty Friedman, and Dave Mustaine have had a profound impact on my work
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create custom musical productions tailored to the specific needs of my clients. My work spans a variety of styles, from classic hip-hop to hybrid and experimental creations that blend rock and electronic influences. I have the privilege of accompanying clients from the initial concept to the final result, which is a truly rewarding process. My musical curiosity allows me to work on a wide range of projects, including music for video games, syncable soundtracks for TV shows or series, and custom sound designs for podcasts. In addition to composition, I provide full mixing and mastering services, ensuring a professional and polished result for any type of media and musical style
