Endorse Tommy MillsTommy is a fast and versatile songwriter, he clearly cares a lot the music, and he's a great collaborator. Worth every penny. He'll certainly make your project better.
Tommy has been and will continue to be a repeat collaborator--he wholeheartedly lends his songwriting fluency, creativity, and musical depth to every song he touches. He has a particular knack for finding the missing pieces of songs, those keystones that transform solid ideas into fully cohesive compositions. Besides his musical talent, his humor and dependable and easygoing nature make him a great person to work with.
I’ve worked with Tommy on previous musical projects and WOW!! Working with him was so smooth, his expertise, passion, and creativity really shines. And he is seamless to work alongside. Whatever you’re envisioning with your project, he can help bring to life. He is a musical prodigy and I can’t recommend him enough!
I've seen Tommy play at several Chicago venues, and each time, he delivers a great performance and brings professionalism and passion to his gigs. You can see a thoughtful approach to lyrics and composition shine though.
Interview with Tommy Mills
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a bit of quirky person and have side gig as a comedian. I feel my music is often most effective when there are elements of humor, irony, or playfulness in the songs. This certainly doesn't mean the songs need to be happy in fact sad serious songs that are funny tend to work really well. I bring a desire to be unique, clever, and slightly humorous which tends to yield off the beaten path songs that are worth listening to!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Brian Eno or Rick Rubin. I love listening to these producers talk and their insights for getting the most out of their artists. I would love to see how they would influence me to find new depths in my artistry.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is seeing the project from a bird's eye view. It gives me great satisfaction when the lyrics, melody, structure, and production of the song all work in tandem together to deliver a powerful and cohesive message. A well crafted song is like a puzzle, I put a great deal of effort into ensuring that things fit together properly.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love musicians from almost every genre. I have a special appreciation for the past and love to explore the catalogs of artists who have already made a proven impact on the world of music. Some favorites include The Beatles, Brian Eno, Bach, Koji Kondo, and Mac Demarco.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I feel most at home working on the melody and lyrics. I love doing this but am also eager to branch out and focus more on producing and arranging.
