Agus Oettel

Guitar/Bass Player & Producer

Agus Oettel on SoundBetter

Hi, I'm Agus! With 20 years of experience as a musician, I'm ready to make your song happen once and for all. I toured around the world and recorded albums as a Bass and Guitar Player in different genres (Pop/Rock/Metal). I’m also a producer and mixing engineer, I guarantee you top notch quality in my products. Let’s make your track sound wild!

I've been a musician for several years touring and recording with both bass and guitar in different projects, such as Innerforce's albums. My main genres are Heavy Metal, Rock, Pop and Funk. I have developed my playing and my recording and mixing knowledge for high quality recordings. I am currently working in a Recording Studio, producing and recording bands and working in my solo projects.

I feel really comfortable playing different kind of guitars like, Electric, Classical or Acoustic with 6 or 12 strings. I can play Fingerstyle or picked, and in case you're wondering, yes! I also like creating some really nice melodic and soulful guitar solos.

My strength is in the Low End, I own 2 basses: a 4 string Fender Precision Bass and a 5 string 35" scale Custom Made by me with Nordstrand Pickups and a Darkglass Preamp. I love playing with fingers but when songs ask for something else I won't hesitate to use picks, slap or tapping.

In my rig you'll find:
- Fender Precision Bass
- Custom Made 5 string bass
- Music Man Majesty with piezo
- Ibanez Acoustic 12 string guitar
- Antigua Casa Nuñez Classical guitar
- Takamine Acoustic 6 string guitar

And a lot of other cool stuff, such as: SM57's and Lewitt Lct 440 Pure Mics, Audient iD22 Interface, Quad Cortex, UADx.

Interview with Agus Oettel

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Just focus on the project's goal, that would draw a map that will tell you in which direction you should go to.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Lately I'm working a lot with Metal bands, but I really like a lot of different genres and I'm really eager to work with projects that involve more elements.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: My strongest skill it comes down to understanding my client's wishes. That makes my mixing process so much easier and more effective.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Even though if I'm being hired only as a Mixing Engineer, being a producer it makes me offer tools to artists in order to help them to get their material to its maximum potential.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: As a mixer, I focus in the client's goal, for me the most important aspect of a mix is to materialize the artist's vision. So I consider my mixes start with communication and that leads naturally to the next stage, references and mixes.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: My setup in this last few months has been going smaller and smaller. I mainly now I mix in the box, because I'm living travelling a lot, travelling with my touring band, and also, moving from Argentina to Germany, it makes it difficult to move a whole studio setup but I work in a professional studio to finish my works.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Musicians that inspire me I must say there are lots of them. Geddy Lee, James Jamerson, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Guthrie Govan, David Gilmour, Tony Levin, Steve Hackett, among others. And music production inspirations, I could mention Steven Wilson, Alan Parsons, Jens Bogren, Rick Rubin, Bob Ezrin, George Martin, Chris-Lord Alge and the magnificent Quincy Jones.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I work mainly as a Mixing Engineer, Producer and Session Musician (Bass and Guitar). Within these categories I cover different music genres, such as, Metal, Hard Rock, Prog/Classic Rock, Pop/Rock, Pop, Funk.
