Interview with Mark Fincham
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Everyone! I'm always just scrolling down instagram and seeing these amazing musicians do their thing. It makes me want to get up immediately and get working.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: At first, I spend a little while listening to the tracks and analysing their grooves, feels, and the sonic world they belong to. Then I rotate around my instruments to find which one the song is calling for, whether that be electric bass, synth, or upright. Once I've decided, and play around the song, solo over it, just really get inside the changes, and then finally hit record. Take a few takes and figure out how to navigate from start to end. Narrative is so important to me, and I want to support the artist in their storytelling. It's a longer than normal process, but I want to contribute what's appropriate to the music, not just supply mediocracy.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually get a completely bass-less track. I'll come up with the most appropriate lines, instrument, and sound for the track, and go from there!
- Bass ElectricAverage price - $50 per song
- Bass UprightAverage price - $50 per song
- Keyboards - SynthAverage price - $50 per song
- PercussionAverage price - $50 per song
I'm able to provide a quick turnaround, roughly 1 or 2 days, sometimes the same day. I allow for 2 revisions. If the scenario calls for it, I can do more. I do what I can for the music.
