Interview with Policélula
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the creative process of making music. In recording and mixing, I strive to be highly inventive, bringing fresh ideas to the table while also realizing the artistic vision that the artist has in mind.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Parallel saturation adds significant power to both instruments and vocals. I truly appreciate its impact in the mix, as I frequently utilize saturation and harmonic distortion to enhance the color and richness of the sound.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have a passion for producing rock, pop, reggaeton, and Latin/urban music, which is where I typically focus my efforts. However, I am open to working across various genres and eager to expand my experience into different styles of music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: In my mixes, I always strive to enhance the sound of every recording, bringing more life and color to the track. I focus on delivering the precise dynamic contrast at just the right moment, giving the song the texture and sonority it naturally calls for. Additionally, I like to highlight the most important element of the song, making sure it stands out at the right time.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: In music production, Rick Rubin is one of my favorite producers. I also really admire what Tainy and Sky Rompiendo are doing in urban music. Musicians and artists who inspire me the most include The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, Turnstile, Wet Leg, Idles, Fontaines D.C., Wolf Alice, Death, J Balvin, Feid, Karol G, Rosalía, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Gorillaz, Björk, Soda Stereo, Billie Eilish, Mac Miller, The Cure, and Guns N' Roses, among others.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually handle the mixing and mastering of songs in genres such as rock, punk, urban music, Latin music, and reggaeton. I also record acoustic and electric bass tracks, which are the most common types of work I do.
