Exciting song-focused mixing

Devil's Tower Records on SoundBetter

Even a good song lives and dies by the mix, so I approach my mixes fearlessly, accenting the most powerful parts of a recording that can be difficult for an artist to see themselves. Credits include the 2021 Record Store Day John Prine tribute album "Kiss My Ass Goodbye," voted "Best Tribute Album" by the Nashville Scene.

Look, there are a lot of expensive engineers out there with all the top gear and album credits, and you can hire them to mix your project and it'll probably be traditionally good, sonically-speaking. Believe me, I live in Nashville, and I'm surrounded by them and I've worked with many of them. But as an artist, it is difficult to find someone who cares about your project and has an exciting vision for it. A lot of the famous engineers are so busy that your project is just another gig, something they gotta knock out before a famous client comes along. (Unfortunately it's the music BUSINESS, after all.) I'm not famous, but I'm pretty darn good, affordable, and most importantly I care. Being an artist myself, who has made records at some of the best studios and with some of the best engineers in the country, I can tell you that it's not hard to find a good engineer, but it's hard to find YOUR engineer. For the right price, anyone can make your project "good." Let's make it exciting too, and leave you some money left over for mastering and vinyl. -Jack Evan Johnson
