Interview with Noah Dalsass Mastering

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: My style is minimalist and precise, focused on enhancing what’s already there without adding anything unnecessary. I believe in subtlety, every adjustment I make is intentional and aimed at bringing out the natural dynamics and character of the music. My approach is all about creating clarity and depth while letting the track’s own personality take center stage.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work on a variety of genres, but my experience has been especially strong in alternative, indie, and electronic music. That said, I love working on anything with a unique character. My passion is bringing out the distinct feel of each track, whether it’s gritty and raw or polished and smooth.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: My strongest skill is my ability to understand and enhance the artist’s vision for their music. I’m committed to creating a master that feels exactly like the sound they’ve been imagining, and I’ll go through as many refinements as necessary to achieve that. My goal is for the artist to hear the final product and say, “That’s exactly it.”

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I bring clarity, depth, and cohesion to each track, enhancing the emotional impact while staying true to the artist’s vision. My goal is to create a master that feels balanced and polished yet retains the unique character of the original mix. Whether it’s adding warmth, punch, or subtle detail, I focus on making each element shine in a way that serves the song’s overall vibe and message.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I start by listening closely to the raw mix, aiming to understand the artist's intent and the feel they want to convey. I’ll reach out to the artist to discuss their vision, any references they have, and specific areas they want highlighted. Once I have a clear understanding, I begin with an initial master, focusing on bringing clarity, balance, and depth to the track while preserving its unique vibe. I work in stages, making subtle adjustments and refining until the music feels just right. After I send the first master, I welcome any feedback and am happy to make adjustments to ensure the artist is 100% satisfied. Throughout the process, my priority is to bring out the soul of the track while enhancing its technical quality for any platform, whether streaming, vinyl, or digital.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: My studio setup is minimalist, designed to focus purely on quality and precision. I use PSI A215-M high-end monitors for detailed and transparent playback, which allows me to hear every nuance. The space itself is acoustically optimized to provide a true, accurate sound so that every adjustment I make translates perfectly to the outside world.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Zino Mikorey is a big influence on me, especially his minimalist mastering style. I admire how he enhances the music’s character without adding unnecessary elements. His approach to mastering resonates with my own, as I believe in creating clarity and impact with subtlety and precision.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: I focus primarily on mastering, working closely with artists to refine the final sound of their projects and achieve the exact feel they envision. My goal is to bring out the best in each track, preserving its essence while ensuring it’s ready to compete on any platform. This often includes both traditional mastering and stem mastering, allowing me to make finer adjustments for a balanced, polished result.
