Interview with Marten
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of the Projects is the song Space which I have in my account. it was one of the hardest as it was a bit hard to control some of the Dynamics in there besides of trying to go As Loud as it can get.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mastering Multiple Tracks and Few mixes
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Am still relevantly New here, But am sure there is amazing people in here that I Would love to meet and work with.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, Most of the Fancy Hardwares are now Emulated and been Transferred into Plugins which makes it easy to work on the go weather you are traveling a lot or someone that doesn't like to work in one place, besides of having more options with the digital even tho hardware might sound a bit familiar.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Professional High Quality sounding Mixes and Masters as fast as possible with Reasonable rates, don't Believe me? you can have a sample to test it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Music has been my life since I was a child, and honestly I love my job as a Mixing and Mastering Engineer, Especially working on different Songs and Genres from all Types of artists which is really inspiring for me.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Mostly about the quality and Loudness and how loud could their songs can be. And it really depends on the Genre And the Quality of the Writing and Production. But I still try to go as loud as I possibly can
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I try to be as creative as possible, Mixing and mastering isn't always the Creative Happy Job, most of the time you have to do the Technical part of things in order to get the best out of the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: It depends what service am working with the client with, for mastering for example I need a solid Background To start from which is the Reference track, besides that I need the song info like the tempo and the Bit Rate etc.. For mixing I focus a lot on the Clients Perspective on the Song and where they want me to get their song, and that can't be communicated any better than a Reference track, Normally i would ask for two to three References.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to Hire someone that actually Understand their Tools and how to use them the best, try to get a sample from them or provide them with a demo and see the results yourself, if you liked it you can go for them and work with them.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop will be more than enough to be honest.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Its been 7 years now, I started producing and starting learning from there.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A lot of the time I like to keep it in between Warme and Bright, and it mainly depends on the Genre and Style of the song.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Well most Major artists if am being real, Like Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, etc...
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's very important to do your best to fill the spectrum instead of trying to aimlessly layer sounds on top of each other, try to use the sound to fill instead of putting sounds on top of each other.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM is my main Genre, I work with pop and Rock, in mastering its not really of a problem I have worked with many other genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: the Attention to very small details and hearing very little deferences in gain and volume, the high control over Dynamic Controls.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whatever is needed to make the song a Radio-ready song and the next Banger and hit. Fuller and more sustained sounding mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically I Use EQs to further enhance and get to the Ballpoint of where the song should go, and that needs a reference to know where to aim, mostly small adjustments, Next comes the Dynamics Control even Tho I don't always use compression in mastering unless I have no other choice, with some saturation and widening if needed, then comes the clipping and Limiting on two separate Stages using two deferent Limiters.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mostly the big Names like Martin Garrix and Tiesto.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly its Mastering more often than Mixing.
