Reynan Marangga on SoundBetter

Hey! Want your song to actually hit the way it should? Clear, emotional, and true to your vision. I’ve helped local artists shape their raw ideas into music they’re genuinely proud of. If you want someone who cares about your music as much as you do, I’d love to be part of your project.

About me:
I’m Reynan Marangga, a musician, music producer, and mixing engineer
from the Reynan's SoundLab. I started as a session musician at 14, performing and
collaborating with various bands. Ever since the pandemic, I focused on music
production and audio engineering, working with several artists, joining
competitions, and earning awards. Through freelancing, I’ve gained experience
in meeting deadlines, managing expectations, and collaborating across diverse
musical styles.

Interview with Reynan Marangga

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: How long will it take to finish my song or project? The timeline depends on the scale and scope of the project, but most are completed within 3–5 days. I also keep clients updated throughout the process to ensure everything stays on track.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: I ask about the feeling they want to capture, their reference tracks, and their goals for the project.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I handled recording, mixing, and mastering for a festival competition project. We used a single microphone to capture a 4 man percussion group in a mobile setup. Despite minimal gear and having to travel by motorbike, the project won the competition, proof that creativity beats gear any day.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: I’m currently working on an original Gospel song with my bandmates.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: Not at the moment.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Digital. It’s portable, flexible, and they sound the same.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: Your project will be my top priority. It’s my main focus, and I’ll treat it like my own.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: The most satisfying part is when I finally capture the emotion I’m aiming for in a mix

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That mixing means turning a song into a dance remix 😅

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who communicates well and genuinely asks questions about your vision.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My audio interface, headphones, laptop, microphone, and my phone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started out as a drummer but discovered a deeper passion in music production and mixing. I’ve been doing this for about five years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Full, emotionally engaging, and clean.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Deadmau5, his melodies are fun to explore, and I admire his gear and production style.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Create a rough version first, then clean it up later. Don’t try to perfect and create at the same time.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rock and Gospel music

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Creating a cohesive mix, effective EQing, and working productively.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I focus on bringing out the song’s emotion, more than just a clean mix, I want to make it connect and resonate with listeners.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I begin with a template, then move to the creative phase, followed by the more analytical side. I avoid multitasking and focus on delivering quality work efficiently.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work in my basement studio using nearfield monitor speakers, calibrated semi-open back headphones, an audio interface, and a laptop.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Joe Gilder taught me essential mixing techniques I still use today. Martin Garrix inspired my love for EDM. Also, the book Zen and the Art of Mixing taught me that emotion is what truly makes a mix stand out.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mobile recording, mixing, mastering, remixing, and producing.
