Marius Duboule on SoundBetter

I've been playing the guitar professionally for over 20 years, in bands of all genres and sizes, from jazz and pop, to free improvised and contemporary music.

GUITAR
I would be happy to play guitar in your project and help you get the sound and vibe you're looking for. I have multiple instruments and effect pedals and can be as specific or experimental as required.

MIX/MASTER
I've been sound engineer front of house for many years in major festivals and jazz clubs in Switzerland and have been recording music for as long as I can remember! In the past 10 years, I've specialized in mix and mastering and strive for a simple, clean and authentic esthetic that lets the music shine.

Very easy and professional to work with, Marius did a wonderful job working on my first album, it’s obvious that he really knows what he’s doing. Communication was swift and efficient. One of my songs,《 Manjusaka》has received over 100,000 streams on Spotify. Can’t wait to work with him again!

Marius is an absolute pro! He mixed and mastered my jazz piano trio album, and the final result blew me away. He brought out incredible depth and clarity in the sound, elevating every detail. His work was quick, efficient, and exceeded my expectations. The whole process was smooth and enjoyable, and I could not be happier with how the album turned out. I highly recommend his services—his expertise will truly take your music to the next level!

I hired Marius to work on my album 'Guardians' and he did an amazing job. We made complex edits in his studio and recorded additional vocals, it was a creative, efficient and painless process. He also recorded all the guitar parts and brought a lot to the music. The album received many positive reviews — we even made it to the first round of the Grammy nominations! All in all, I couldn't recommend him enough for his work as a guitarist and sound engineer.

Interview with Marius Duboule

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: How quickly can you get to it? Usually in 3 or 4 days.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I recently recorded a small project with piano, vibraphone and vocals and thought the result sounded really nice, I'm excited to see it come out!

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I'm going to be recording some original music in the Spring and touring in China in the Summer, so that's exciting!

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Eivind Opsvik is a fantastic bass player and sound engineer, that I really respect in both aspects.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I entirely work in the box (digital) when it comes to mixing and mastering, because it helps me try different options and make decisions quickly. I have no problem with engineers who use outboard gear though, I just find it slightly more cumbersome and having the option to quickly recall settings and make additional changes is almost a necessity nowadays.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Send me your questions or tracks, let's start a discussion and I'm sure we can make it happen – we'll both be happy about it!

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Get the music sounding as good as possible before recording it. But also, book a date with the studio and do record it!

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Jazz, acoustic, free or improvised music in a general sense is what I'm most used to but I'm also have experience with pop, ska and classical music. I understand there are different esthetics associated to genres, but some musical aspects remain the same no matter the style.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Many years of experience and a musician ear 👂

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: It's pretty minimalistic by design. I use a pair of Genelecs as my main monitors, a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 to check the low frequencies. My studio is treated acoustically and after spending countless hours listening to and working on music I'm very much used to the way it responds. I own a Gibson SG '61, a Gibson L4-C (1949) and a Picado classical guitar from 2010. I have a fantastic Headstrong Lil' King-S tube amp that has a wonderful vibe. Throw in a couple of fancy mics and a nice sound interface and stir vigorously until stiff pics have formed.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: As engineer I typically mix and master music, I also occasionally record. As a guitarist, I perform mostly in New York, and tour internationally but am also available to record and contribute to your musical projects on this platform. Hit me up!
