Interview with Youness Faragi Thelittlebiggy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of is my latest work here on SoundBetter. It was amazing to see an artist’s idea come to life. I was the songwriter and topliner for the track, and I really enjoyed collaborating and making sure the artist loved the final result. I can’t share too many details due to confidentiality, but it was a rewarding creative experience.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I’m working on a few music projects as a producer and sound engineer, focusing on recording, mixing, and mastering tracks for different artists. I’m also developing my own songs, experimenting with vocal layering, harmonies, and creative production techniques to refine my sound and skills.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I haven’t worked closely with anyone else on SoundBetter yet, but I always recommend looking for providers with strong portfolios and reviews that match your style and needs. It’s important to choose someone who can bring both creativity and technical skill to your project.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I’d love to work with analog gear and experience the warmth and character of real machines, but right now my setup is digital. I’ve found ways to integrate analog processing remotely, especially in mastering, using servers that link digital projects to real hardware. I’m still exploring this, but it’s an exciting way to combine the best of both worlds.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to clients is to treat every project with care and dedication. I deliver high-quality recordings, mixes, and songs while staying true to the artist’s vision, providing clear communication, and making sure the final result exceeds expectations.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most about my job is bringing an artist’s vision to life. I enjoy shaping the vocals, writing, and producing music that connects with people, while constantly learning and experimenting to improve both creatively and technically. Music gives me joy, but it’s also rewarding to see a project go from an idea to a finished, polished track.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: The biggest misconception is that people think I’m “just playing” or that recording music is easy. Many don’t realize how much work, investment, and experience goes into getting high-quality results. Music is my main job, not just a hobby — it brings me joy, but it’s also a lot of hard work, skill, and dedication to make every song sound its best.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: My advice is to look for a provider who understands both the creative and technical sides of music. Make sure they listen to your vision, communicate clearly, and are willing to collaborate to bring your ideas to life. It’s important to choose someone who can enhance your song while respecting your style and identity.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: First, I’d survive 😄 so I’d take water, food, and basic shelter tools. But once survival is covered, my gear choices would be minimal and practical: a laptop with my DAW, a simple audio interface, a reliable microphone, and good headphones. With just those, I could still write, record, and produce music anywhere.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started practicing and experimenting with music in 2020, but my official career began in 2022 when I started working with proper equipment and professional setups. Since then, I’ve launched my own studio, worked on recording, mixing, mastering, songwriting, and performed live, gaining experience across multiple genres while developing both my creative and technical skills.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My style blends strong, emotional lyrics with precise vocal delivery and polished production. I focus on creating music that feels authentic, melodic when needed, and powerful in its impact, while keeping the artist’s identity at the center.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I’d love to work with JID because I really admire how he writes his songs and delivers his performances. I feel like our energy could match perfectly, and I could contribute both creatively and technically to bring out the best in his music.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Focus on capturing the vocals cleanly first—good recording makes mixing much easier. A well-recorded vocal requires less processing, stays natural, and lets the emotion come through clearly.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I usually work on rap and melodic urban music, but as an artist and producer, I’m adaptable and have experience across a wide range of genres. I focus on bringing out the best in each style while keeping the artist’s identity at the center.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is combining powerful lyrics, strong vocal performance, and high-quality mixing into one cohesive result. I’m able to work on both the creative and technical sides of a song, which helps me translate emotion and intent into a polished, professional sound.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring a strong focus on vocals, musical identity, and emotion. I pay close attention to details like delivery, tone, and layering to make sure the song feels cohesive and impactful. Beyond the technical side, I also contribute creatively through songwriting and topline ideas, helping shape the song’s structure and overall direction while respecting the artist’s vision.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: My process usually starts with understanding the client’s vision, references, and goals for the song. I then work on songwriting or topline if needed, followed by recording or organizing the vocal stems. From there, I focus on vocal editing (timing, tuning, cleanup), then mixing and creative processing such as layering, harmonies, and effects. I finish with mastering and always leave room for revisions to make sure the final result matches the client’s expectations.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I work from a treated home studio focused on vocal recording and production. My main microphone is a Rode NT1-A paired with an Arturia MiniFuse 2 interface. I monitor through Adam Audio T5V speakers and Audio-Technica M50x headphones to ensure accurate translation. I mainly work in FL Studio and Pro Tools, using Waves and FabFilter plugins for vocal editing, mixing, and mastering. My setup is optimized for detailed vocal work, vocal layering, and creative processing to deliver release-ready results.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I’m inspired by FINNEAS, especially how he built a strong musical identity from very limited resources and focused on creativity over gear. His work with Billie Eilish is a big reference for me — the way he records, layers, and harmonizes her vocals while keeping them intimate and emotional is really impressive. In hip-hop, J. Cole is a major inspiration for me because of his authenticity, songwriting, and ability to deliver powerful messages with simple but effective production. He proves that strong ideas and honest expression matter more than trends.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Most of my work involves recording, mixing, and mastering vocals for artists, mainly in hip-hop, rap, and melodic urban styles. I work on full songs from raw vocal recordings to final release-ready versions. I also write songs and toplines for clients, helping with lyrics, flow, melody, and structure, as well as vocal editing, tuning, layering (doubles, ad-libs, harmonies), and creative processing to achieve a polished, modern sound while keeping the artist’s identity intact.
