Zek Tyn aims to bring out the BEST version of your song/album/soundtrack possible.
Zek has a history making music in all genres. Hip hop is his home but he’s had his hands in pop, rock, soul, you name it. He’s even found himself writing video game soundtracks and orchestral scores. He aims to make his sound unique but easy to get addicted to. Zek doesn't want to sound like everyone else but would rather carve his own little space doing things and going places others don't. His eclectic nature lends itself to that.
Zek is the true definition of a music producer. He has set out to understand and become proficient at EVERYTHING involved in the creation and release of a song, album, or soundtrack. Although his main passion remains the beat making process, his skills as a songwriter and engineer should not be overlooked. From the first note he plays for your track, Zek already hears the entire finished song. He hears the artist, he hears the song’s themes, and he hears how every instrument and vocal should be leveled within the soundscape to achieve the best version of the idea he set out to bring to life.
If you're just looking for a beat maker to put some sounds together and send it off to you, he is happy to play that role. His full talents, however, are far beyond that. Zek Tyn is best utilized as your means of bringing that idea or feeling you have out to the real world, tangible and concrete.

Interview with Zek Tyn
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am all over the place. My style matches my mood. One thing I find is a part of pretty much all of my music is this dream-like quality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: JPEGMAFIA is my main pick right now. I really want to know how he gets his mixes and beats so chaotic yet still fun to listen to.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you feel like you're hitting a wall, jump into the fire. I find my best work comes when I have the thought "I might have bit off more than I can chew" for at least a brief second. Challenge is the only way I've found to truly improve myself. Bringing me something I'm not 100% on and telling me I HAVE to knock it out the park does something to my brain that consistently unlocks a new level to my work.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip hop, R&B, Soul, and Heavy Rock are my go to genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Production. True production. From jump I can hear the entire song and know how to get us there. I'm skilled at directing others towards the goal. I know who to talk to and how to talk to them. Beat making and production are two different things. It's nice to be good at both.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A very broad skill set where each skill is refined. I've spent years at a time honing one specific aspect of music making until I felt comfortable then added that to my process. I try to do a little bit of everything every week in order to stay on my toes. That means learning new ways to go about it as well as reviewing the techniques I feel I already have locked down. That said my creativity is the bottom line. It's the reason I go out of my way to learn as much as I do. I want more avenues available for me to be creative.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Start playing notes then hear the entire song. That's really it. I'll go in aiming to make a specific style or sound. Once I start playing the music tends to make itself. One note lends itself to the next as does one chord as does one bar and so on. I just let creativity take over. The same goes when working with other artists. I'm good at seeing where they want to go and moving us along in that direction.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My main instrument is Ableton Live 12. The things I am able to do with just a laptop and 30 minutes still shocks me. Other than that I have an SSL 2 interface, Novation 49 SL MKII, Headrush Prime, plus bass and guitar. I use both UAD and Waves for mixing/mastering plus all the usual suspects in the engineering industry. I'm also comfortable in pretty much any recording studio in Atlanta.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My inspirations come from all over. Kid Cudi, Tyler, the Creator, and Kendrick Lamar exemplify my taste in rap. Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, and The Weeknd are my R&B picks. Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Lauryn Hill are my childhood classics. Deftones, Greta Van Fleet, and Led Zeppelin top my rock charts. Radiohead, Crumb, and Men I Trust give me my indie trippy vibes.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Production is my bread and butter. I am looking to do more engineering work. Work as a band bassist/keyboardist in the songwriting stage as well.
