Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To explore further than most are willing, to find something that really feels right and elevates the project.. to ensure everyone involved is super happy with the end result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac Pro with Apogee A/D coversion, EMI Chandler and API preamps, UA and Slate plugins. Numerous guitars amps and mics.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Craig Silvey's mixing and Ethan Johns' production work are definitely up there. On the creative side, musicians like Jimmy Page, Nick Drake, Arthur Lee, David Gilmour.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Writing guitar parts, bass parts, and mixing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Folk Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Indie, Americana
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Allow instinct to feel out, where in the song guitar parts will elevate and bring out depth and feel or emotion. Find the main element or hook that helps define the track and the rest usually links in from that. Similarly with mixing, ensure that instinct and ears (not eyes on meters!) are leading things.. any sort of preconceived notions or confirmation bias can get in the way of a natural powerful sounding mix. I'm after things to really *feel* great.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Levi Szendro... one of the best drummers around currently
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I've just finished full production (guitars, bass, synths, arrangements) and mixing of my current project Straylings third album.
