Interview with Michele Tammaro

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m particularly proud of is my original Neapolitan song, “‘Na Notte Scetàto”. I handled every stage of the process: songwriting, arrangement, recording, mixing, and mastering. It reflects my approach — attention to detail, sound research, and above all, respect for the emotion of the song.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now I’m working on both my own music and productions for other artists, mainly in pop and singer-songwriter genres. I like balancing technical work with creative work, always staying closely connected to the music.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: SoundBetter is full of highly skilled professionals, and I believe the right choice always depends on the project and artistic sensitivity. Rather than a specific name, I recommend finding someone who truly connects with your music.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. I use digital for precision and control, and analog for character and depth. I believe the real value lies in the balance between the two, always in service of the music.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is simple: to respect your music and bring it to its highest potential. I don’t try to change who you are — I enhance it through a professional, polished, and authentic sound.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most is seeing a song take shape and become something real. When a track truly works, you can feel it immediately — and that’s the feeling I aim for every time.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: One of the most common questions is: “Will it sound professional even if I recorded at home?” The answer is yes — if the material is good and handled properly. My goal is exactly that: turning a simple recording into something professional and competitive.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is thinking that mixing or mastering can “fix” everything. A great result always starts with a solid foundation — my job is to enhance it at its best.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I always ask what kind of sound they’re aiming for, their artistic references, and the role the vocal should have in the track. This helps me build a result that stays true to their identity.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I always recommend choosing someone who truly understands your music, not just from a technical perspective. Listening to previous work is important, but what matters most is finding someone who shares your vision.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A piano, a portable recorder, a pair of headphones, a good microphone, and… a bit of silence. In the end, even on a desert island, what matters most is having something to say.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’m a singer-songwriter with several years of experience in songwriting, production, and recording. Over time, I’ve developed my work as an audio engineer and producer, working on both my own music and projects for other artists, combining artistic sensitivity with technical expertise. Today I work in my professional studio, helping artists turn their ideas into fully produced, release-ready tracks.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is essential, musical, and emotion-driven. I aim to find the right balance between clarity and character, avoiding excess and leaving space for what truly matters: the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran for his musical depth and authenticity, and with Bruno Mars for his attention to sound and arrangement. They represent two different worlds, but both achieve a perfect balance between emotion and production.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: The most important advice is: simplify. A song often works better when every element has a clear space and purpose. It’s not about adding more, but about choosing what to keep.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I mainly work on pop, singer-songwriter, and productions that blend acoustic and electronic elements. I enjoy combining modern sounds with more classic influences, always keeping a strong focus on vocals and musicality.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is vocal production. I focus on bringing out the true character of the voice, making it present, natural, and emotionally engaging in the mix. I pay close attention to detail, always in service of the emotion.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a complete musical vision, not just technical skills. Being a songwriter myself, I understand the emotional intention behind a song and enhance it through sound. My goal is to create depth, balance, and identity, making sure every element supports the vocal and the message without ever compromising its authenticity.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My process always starts with listening — understanding the artist’s identity and the direction of the song. I then focus on editing and vocal production, taking care of every interpretative detail. The mix is built musically, giving space to the vocal while creating depth and dynamics, and the final mastering ensures the track is competitive on streaming platforms. Throughout the process, I maintain clear and constant communication with the client, offering focused revisions to achieve the desired result without losing spontaneity.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work in a professional studio built around a hybrid analog/digital system. My setup includes Pro Tools HDX, analog summing through Burl, high-end conversion, and a recording chain featuring premium microphones and analog preamps. The monitoring environment is acoustically treated and calibrated to ensure accurate translation across all playback systems. This allows me to achieve a warm, detailed, and three-dimensional sound while maintaining full control and precision.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: From a technical perspective, I’m influenced by engineers like Michael Brauer, where mixing becomes an integral part of the artistic expression.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I mainly work with singer-songwriters and pop artists who record at home and want to bring their songs to a professional level without losing identity and emotion. I specialize in vocal production, editing, mixing, and mastering, using a hybrid analog/digital approach that combines technical precision with musicality. My goal is to turn a demo into a release-ready track while preserving the artist’s character and elevating the sound to industry standards.
