Interview with Mais Harb

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of the projects I’m especially proud of is my latest heritage-inspired album. The project allowed me to reconnect with Arabic musical heritage while presenting it through my own contemporary artistic vision. My role included artistic supervision, vocal performance, and researching the origins of the musical forms and traditions behind each song, as well as the stories and cultural context from which the songs were written. I spent time exploring the emotional background and historical atmosphere of the music in order to perform the songs with honesty, depth, and respect for their original spirit. This process was very meaningful to me because it was not only about singing, but also about understanding and preserving the emotional memory and cultural identity carried within the music. What made this project especially important to me was the balance between heritage, research, authenticity, and personal artistic expression.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I’m working on composing original songs, developing independent musical projects, training a choir in Berlin, and organizing my own live performances and concerts. I’m also deeply interested in heritage-inspired music and contemporary oriental productions.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Sultan Hlal

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I enjoy the flexibility and creative freedom of digital work, especially for remote collaboration and experimenting with ideas. At the same time, I love the warmth, emotion, and human feeling often found in traditional and analog-inspired music. For me, the most important thing is not choosing one over the other, but creating music that feels alive, honest, and emotionally real.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise honest communication, artistic care, flexibility, and full dedication to every project. I always try to understand the client’s vision while bringing authenticity, emotion, and sensitivity to the music. My goal is to create work that feels natural, meaningful, and emotionally connected.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most is creating emotional connection through music. I love the moment when a melody, lyric, or vocal performance suddenly feels alive and meaningful. Music allows people from different cultures and experiences to connect emotionally, and that’s something very special to me.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Clients often ask if I can adapt my voice, writing style, or melodies to different kinds of projects. My answer is always yes — while still keeping authenticity and emotional honesty at the center of the work. Every project has its own atmosphere, and I enjoy exploring different artistic directions.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: One of the biggest misconceptions is that Arabic vocals or songwriting are only about language or technique. For me, it’s deeply connected to emotion, storytelling, cultural feeling, and musical identity. Creating something authentic requires sensitivity, not only a good voice or translation.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask about the artistic vision, emotional direction, references, timeline, and how they want the listener to feel. Understanding the story and intention behind the music helps me create vocals, melodies, or lyrics that truly fit the project.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I believe good collaboration comes from clear communication, mutual respect, and flexibility. Every project has its own identity, so I always try to understand the client’s vision while bringing my own artistic sensitivity and authenticity to the work. The most important thing for me is creating music that feels honest, emotional, and meaningful.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A microphone My audio interface Headphones A laptop with my recording software A small keyboard or oud for composing melodies Honestly, emotion and imagination are always the most important tools.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Music has been a central part of my life for many years. I developed my work through singing, songwriting, composing, live performances, and independent artistic projects. I have released four albums, including my latest project focused on Arabic heritage and traditional musical influences. Over time, I built experience in oriental music, heritage-inspired projects, contemporary Arabic music, and remote collaboration from my home studio in Berlin.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style combines oriental musical roots, heritage influences, and contemporary emotional expression. I’m deeply inspired by Arabic musical heritage and I love reimagining traditional sounds in a modern, honest, and emotionally rich way. I’m drawn to expressive melodies, meaningful storytelling, and music that feels close to people and everyday life while still carrying cultural depth and authenticity.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with artists and producers who create music that is emotionally honest and culturally meaningful. I’m especially drawn to collaborations that blend oriental identity with contemporary sound and tell real human stories through music.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: A strong emotional performance is more important than technical perfection. People connect with honesty and feeling before anything else, so preserving emotion in a recording is essential.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I mainly work on oriental music, world music, contemporary Arabic music, cinematic productions, and emotional acoustic songs. I enjoy projects that combine traditional musical identity with modern production and meaningful storytelling.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is expressing emotion through melody and voice. I naturally connect lyrics, vocal delivery, and composition in a way that helps songs feel authentic and emotionally alive.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring emotion, authenticity, and strong storytelling to a song. Whether through vocals, melody, or lyrics, I always try to create something that feels human, honest, and emotionally connected to people. I love blending oriental musical identity with contemporary sound in a natural and expressive way.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually begin by understanding the artistic vision, mood, and message of the project. After listening to the demo or production, I develop melodies, lyrics, or vocal ideas that fit naturally with the music. I then record and deliver high-quality stems for feedback and revisions to make sure the final result feels authentic and emotionally connected.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from a professional home studio in Berlin with a high-quality recording setup suitable for vocals, songwriting, and voice over work. I can deliver clean, ready-to-mix recordings remotely with fast communication and flexible collaboration.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by artists and composers who create music that feels honest, emotional, and deeply connected to people’s everyday lives. Fairuz, Ziad Rahbani, and Sayed Darwish have had a strong influence on me because of the way they combine powerful melodies, meaningful lyrics, and music that reflects society and real human emotions. I’m especially drawn to contemporary oriental music that is authentic, understandable, emotionally rich, and close to people.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I work mainly as an Arabic singer, songwriter, and composer for oriental, world music, film, and contemporary productions. I create authentic Arabic lyrics, topline melodies, expressive vocals, harmonies, and voice overs. I also help adapt songs into Arabic while keeping the emotional connection and musical flow natural for the language.
