Interview with Milad Ekhlasi

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Kojaei- parto Which is a Persian pop music. I enjoyed every second of it’s arrangement and mix and mastering.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I’m more of a digital guy. Although the analog gears have their warmth and color, I prefer to bring my desired amount of warmth to the mix and that’s only possible with a digital setup.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: You’ll be happy with the final result.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I enjoy the creativity involved in shaping sound and bringing a vision to life. The collaboration with artists and the satisfaction of helping them achieve their goals can be rewarding. Plus, the constant learning and experimentation with new techniques and technologies keep things exciting. The joy of seeing a track evolve from a rough mix to a polished final product is also a highlight!

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: -How long will the process take? +It depends on the project, but I aim to deliver mixes within a few days and mastering within a day to a week. -What do you need from me? +I need the stems or files in high quality, along with any references for the sound you’re aiming for. -Can you fix my mix? +I can enhance the mix, and I’m happy to provide feedback if needed. Just send me what you have! -What’s the difference between mixing and mastering? +Mixing is about balancing and shaping individual tracks, while mastering prepares the final mix for distribution. -How many revisions can I have? +I don’t have a limit on revisions for mixing, so we can keep tweaking until you’re happy with it!

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: One big misconception is that mixing and mastering are the same thing. People often think mixing is just about balancing levels, but it’s way more involved—like shaping the sound and arranging everything. Mastering, on the other hand, is about making the track sound great on all systems. Another common myth is that mastering can save a bad mix, which isn’t really true; a solid mix is what you need for good mastering.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: -What is your creative vision for the project? -Are there any specific references or tracks that inspire the sound you’re going for? -What elements of your track are most important to you? -What are your expectations for the final mix/master? -Do you have any deadlines or specific timelines for the project? -How do you want the mix to feel—clean and polished, or more raw and organic? -Have you worked with a mix/mastering engineer before? If so, how was the experience? -How do you prefer to receive feedback and communicate throughout the process?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: When hiring a mixing and mastering engineer, it’s important to find someone who understands your creative vision and is open to collaboration. Clear communication is key, make sure you can discuss your goals and preferences openly. It’s also crucial to listen to samples of their previous work to ensure their style fits your sound. Trust the process and be open to feedback and suggestions, as a good engineer will enhance your track while respecting your artistic intent

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My laptop, audio interface, monitoring speakers, a headphone and a MIDI keyboard

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
