Interview with Jacob

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked to do a redub of the film "The Boy and the Heron", I self-produced the soundtrack for a few scenes. I also in the opposite side of the spectrum I frequently and completely resampled old funk songs into different, unrecognizable beats.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Producing, Mixing, & Mastering two projects related to rock. Also, working to develop my own sound across many genres

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital, mostly due to the frequency of a client. I can't mix multiple sessions in a single analog setting.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Make your raw track objectively better.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Every time I go into a project, whether it be my own or someone else's, I'm come out the other side better in some capacity.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Can the mix be universal in all scenarios? I would reply, absolutely.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Anyone can do it, there is a level of creativity and individuality that goes into each mix.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Do have a picture of what you want, or even a sliver of an idea. I can work with anything.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: I just need a basic idea of what you desire, and your wav files. Everything past that point is achievable

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My computer, Rme Interface, Nord Stage 4, Sennheiser 660, JBL 3 Way Speaker

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I was always fascinated by music, and later into my life, I wanted so badly to know how to reproduce those sounds.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Never forcing a starting point, rather forcing a finishing point. For myself, once I have the basis for an idea, it's off to the races

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Kendrick Lamar, Westside Gunn(Griselda) - too many instances of being amazed by their flow and beat choice, I have beats made that would really color their style and voices Sigur Ros - In my humble opinion, the greatest ambient, rock, orchestral music ever. I truly am inspired to create music you could fall into. The separate projects of Jonsi and Alex Somers are even more of what I love in the classical Icelandic culture.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Develop a sound or mix style, so much so that you love it more than your favorite sound or mixes

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Boom Bap, Classical, Cinematic, Soundtrack. All major music dependent on era

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Elevation and long-term vision that is connected to listening to a song.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Each track, assuming it's unprocessed, will be put through a chain of plugins to achieve the best possible version of that audio. Then through leveling, panning, and frequency masking, blend all tracks together to create one mesh of an idea. Then once everything is mixed, I run everything through similar processing to achieve the "glue" effect of a song.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Most of everything I do is in the box. Plugins are mostly through wave and tested presets for efficiency. Though I do have My Scar 18 computer(Fl Studio/Ableton), Various Plugins, Monitor, RME Interface, Nord Stage 4, Sennheiser 660/Momentum 4, JBL 3 Way Speaker, Phone(Reference)
