It's my job to help the artist create music in a way the captivates listeners and cultivates #aNewEraOfMusic
AMR Studio has a surprising history that easily qualifies it in the "not your average recording studio" category. Stephen Adwell is the mixing master responsible for dreaming up a recording studio which evolved from a dream to a reality, steering AMR to the successes it has today. Stephen went to various colleges and completed his Associates in Applied Science with an emphasis in Recording Arts Technology from Labette Community College in 2009.
Having the experience as a band member and working with various bands, Adwell understands the dedication and passion it takes to book shows and to gain attention of the fans. He understands the importance of the quality of the product will only showcase if the true talent of the band or individual is crazy enough to claim music as their passion. Stephen has experienced on a personal level, more than most, what music can bring to a person's life.
The studio started in 2012, in a shabby rented out space in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately as time would tell, AMR studio was built on floodplain. Like a sick plot twist Hurricane Harvey destroyed their house and studio. Now in Tulsa, OK, nice and dry, AMR Studio is up and running again! The path of destruction only proved to make AMR Studio and all involved stronger and smarter. It goes to show that when there is passion and determination nothing can stop a dream from coming true.

Endorse AMR StudioSteven is by far the best man to go to in Tulsa for your all of your recording needs! Minimal disturbance, clean and comfortable work space! He is a true producer!
Stephen, at AMR, helped our team on a project that was very near & dear to our hearts. Our experience with Stephen was fantastic. We found AMR Studio to be a place where magic happens, in a very family friendly environment. It’s not merely a studio where you record tracks. Rather, Stephen goes above and beyond, and takes the time to discuss your vision and goals. To that, he delicately adds his own artistic creativity and unique touch, to create a final, mixed and mastered product that is at whole new level altogether! Stephen surely walks the talk when he says, experience A New Era of Music!
This guy really is the embodiment of love when it comes to producing music. He takes the time to get to know his artists. He cultivates a relationship with his artist to really let the love and passion come through your earphones. If you’re looking to take your project to a new level, then hit up Steven from AMR Studios!
I've gotten to work with AMR studio on several occasions over the past couple years.
Stephen has always been an inspiring presence to work with. He consistently find solutions to problems that arise while recording or on set; and he has fantastic vision on the projects we've colluded on.
He's professional, inspiring, thinks outside the box and is a wonderful presence to work around.
HIGHLY Recommended, and the only studio I refer musicians to.If you're looking for professionalism, talent, and drive, then look no further. I have worked with Stepehn on two projects and his attitude never ceases to impress. It is truly rare to find someone with the dedication and passion for their craft that he displays. Stepehn goes the extra mile each and every time.
From day one, Stephen was very professional and prompt. He had a great ear and helped bring creative ideas. He displayed an appreciation for the art in his craft. Working with AMR has been a great opportunity for myself and the rest of Rogues.
Interview with AMR Studio
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who believes in your music and is passionate
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been working in the industry professionally for 10 years. Whether it be as a live sound engineer, or studio engineering, I haven't had a real job since I was 22. I've been privileged to have studied under some great producers and engineers in my early years. I've also been fortunate to mix some very high profile artists while working at House of Blues in Houston. So far, I've had a great career in music!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't worry how the EQ visualization looks, if it sounds good/cool, then it's good
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: It's hard to say. There are basic "rules" in audio, but each person has certain tastes when it comes to musical preference, and those preferences subconsciously dictate how we as engineers manipulate sound. So to answer the question, I bring my ears to the table! (:
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I'm on desert island I assume electricity isn't viable. Therefore, I wouldn't need recording equipment. For giggles, I'd say an acoustic guitar. It's light weight and easily transportable. Then I would make sure I have lots of water, matches or lighters (60 year supply), survival skills handbook (desert addition), and a knife similar to Crocodile Dundee's.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Rogues Among Us - Analysis Paralysis EP. I produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered this project from start to finish. It holds a deep place in my heart, mostly because after the production of this EP, their drummer was unable to go on tour. So they asked me to fill in. Not only did I work on these tunes, I learned these songs, along with their back catalog, and spent a few weeks on the road with them. On all of my projects, I consider myself to be a member of the band, at least for the moment, but this time I actually became a touring member. This was also the first project I worked on after losing my studio to flood water in Houston's "Tax Day Flood" in 2016 (that's right, my studio was flooded in 2016 & 2017). I spent 4 months repairing my home and studio with the sole purpose of getting this project started. So this project is very dear to me on many levels.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to listen to your wants and needs so I can provide a final product that exceeds expectations and fully embodies both of our musical visions.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping music jump off the speakers
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I utilize both analog and digital mediums into my production. I like the warmth, depth, and width, analog gear provides. I also like the limitless possibilities the digital world offers. By combining both, it allows me to take my productions to greater heights sonically.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get inspiration from anyone and everyone. I try not to play favorites. Any music that I listen to, I always take away something. Whether it be arrangements, production tricks, melodies, meter changes, etc., there is always something to tuck away for future projects.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The majority of my work is what I call Full Production. This includes recording, editing, mixing, and mastering. I'm also the producer on most of the rock records I've done.

- Hurricane HarveyFeb 09, 2019
In August 2017, AMR Studio was directly affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX. My wife and I lost our home and business after flood water caused catastrophic damage to our property. After relocating my family to Tulsa, I spent most of 2018 building a new studio! I officially opened in Mid-Sept of 2018 and have been working with some amazing artists!
