I'm François Samyn, a jazz drums student in the South of France.
Between traditional, bebop, latin, funk, fusion and modern jazz, I'm opening my skills to many genres of music.
As my musical education is mainly in jazz, I'm open to many others like Rock, Pop, etc...
After 13 years of experience as a drummer and now student, my goal is to open myself to new horizons, new people and play at new places everywhere in the South of France.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Two albums, one in traditional jazz and another in fusion.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog is living physically, some it's realistic, but we don't have to miss that digital is most practical ! You have to be neutral in this quesiton ! (I clearly prefer analog but I don't want any fight here)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Discover new people and cultures !
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want your song to be, what do people imagination will think about when they'll listen to it ?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make local musicians work in first. if you don't find them, come here ;)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Ride, Snare, Hihat and two musician :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm still a student in conservatory and I'm playing since 14 years. My goal is to reach the highest level of musical education.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Jazzy !
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Definitly Aaron Parks. He's one of the greatest (if not the greatest) pianists in modern ajzz history. His music is very important to me and I wish I can (somehow) have the capacity of transmit emotions in sound and harmony.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always listen to what other musicians are playing (especially in solos), because you can't answer to someone if you don't have the question they ask you !
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Traditional jazz, Bebop, Latin jazz, Modern Jazz, Fusion/Neo Soul/Alternative, Funk, etc...
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Playing soft and musical ! Be there when I have too and let some space when it's required !
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a jazz drummer, I bring some musicality, some space for solos, rythme and nuances !
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: From the start, I'll listen to the song and make some writings on my paper to remind important things on the song (structure, etc...). After that, I'll start to train on it and I'll record my drums. In last, I'll mix it and send it to you for a review !
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: If I got to choose 5 of them, Larnell Lewis, Bill Evans, Aaron Parks, Gary Burton, Chick Corea.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Live drums, Session recordings, music sheet writing.
