Interview with Kat Pinhorn

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: What I love most about my job is the ability to express myself and help others do the same. Music has a unique way of articulating the human experience, especially when words fail. It’s incredibly fulfilling to create something that is both accessible and enjoyable for others, and to be a part of that beautiful process.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Find someone you vibe with! Music is all about expression, and it’s hard to create something beautiful if you’re not in a comfortable and safe space. Make sure your provider understands your vision and makes you feel at ease throughout the process.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: Music has always been a part of my life—both my parents are musicians, so I grew up immersed in it. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a musician, and when I was 6, my parents even had to make a "no singing at the dinner table" rule! I began songwriting as a teen and pursued a bachelor's degree in voice, where I also learned production as part of my studies. During my degree, I developed skills in editing and basic mixing, and by my third year, I recorded and edited my first EP. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous artists, using my training and experience to help bring their songs to life.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: The biggest thing I bring to a song is collaboration. I see myself as a creative partner, always open to experimenting and helping artists bring their vision to life. My versatility allows me to adapt to different genres and styles, and my formal musical training and experience give me the skills to refine and enhance each project.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: I have many different inspirations depending on the style of music. In pop, I'm always inspired by Taylor Swift, who has stayed relevant and on the charts for years. For R&B, Rihanna is my biggest influence, with her unique style and versatility. In Hip-Hop, there are countless artists I admire for both their production and writing, but my all-time favorite is Kendrick Lamar for his powerful storytelling and innovative sound.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: The most common work I do is crafting hooks for clients who come to me with verses and need that perfect finishing touch. I focus on creating a hook that not only ties together what they're trying to express but also brings their vision to life. My goal is to wrap a bow around the song, ensuring it fully resonates with their artistic intent and elevates the entire track.
