Interview with Jan Dintheer
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my very best to make your music even better, ensuring you're happy with the final product.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a specific vision where your music should go?
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To feel what the music needs and where it needs to breathe.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creative ideas, flavor, and color - everything centered around the music. The music should always come first, not a concept or an ego!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually discuss with my clients in a chat or video call to clarify exactly what they have in mind. Do they already have an idea of the musical direction or the emotions they want to convey? Then I create a draft that provides a sense of direction and gather feedback. Depending on their response, I either revise the draft or further develop the ideas. Throughout the process, I like to send interim results and stay in regular contact with the client. Open communication is very important to me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my commissions come from people looking for a full big band arrangement or an added horn or string section for their songs.
