Interview with Melany Cubero

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was a member of a gospel choir as a soprano, where we toured many communities and theaters bringing culture, history and tradition to many corners of my country, Costa Rica. The black spirituals and gospel songs that we sang really gave an elevated experience that I can say I have never felt with so many other styles that I have sung in my life.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Bruce González

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: That music transforms lives.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Every time I teach a class I like to leave a moral for everyday life, music teaches us how to live. And every time I record as a singer or backup singer I want my voice to bring a magical element that elevates the recording.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Thinking that music is easy to conquer. The “simplest” thing sometimes ends up being the most complex to perfect.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What are you looking for with this process? Where do you want to go? What do you mean by what you are recording?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Music works through frequencies, humans do too. Hire someone who is on your frequency.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: More than a decade

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Latin Pop Soul R&B

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Adán Jodorowsky because I feel that he seeks to achieve a deep connection between all parties in his productions.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Prepare yourself as a singer and make a map before entering the studio to record your songs. The voice is not easy to fix after recording it.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Pop, Soul, RnB, Rock, Ballads, singer-songwriter and urban music.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Complicity with the students/singers, ease of communication. Harmonious ear and fluid composition of melodies.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: Modernity and soul

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, Natalia Lafourcade and Fito Páez.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
