Interview with Spike Ste
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers usually ask about my delivery time. Since this is my main job, I always want to dedicate most of my days to this
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have many projects that I really liked to be part of, but the most pleasurable for me are the one where I performed live. I think that is what I really love above all
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm mainly working as a session musician and performer with mostly double bass, and also producing my songs
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I know a lot of them but not personally
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for its transportability, analog for its sound
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will always work hard to satisfy your requests, and I won't ever finish any work until you'll be 100% satisfied with it
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Connecting with other people and cultures, growing musically. And of course, music is all my life so I wouldn't do anything different
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That good gear makes you a great musician
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask their goal, their deadlines and what is the project for
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Let me deeply understand the feeling that a part or a song should express
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An acoustic guitar, a pen and a paper to write will be enough
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started when I was 10 with electric bass, then I entered a music high school and started with double bass, as well as songwriting, at the age of 14. I started playing in many local places as an orchestra double bassist. Years later, I got a degree in "Urban Music Production", where I studied production, beatmaking and Live electronic performances.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotional, etheric
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Damien Rice: he is one of my greatest source of inspiration; Sufjan Stevens for the same reason; Hiatus Kaiyote, because they are incredible; Cinematic Orchestra, they are incredible as well.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Live your life, be happy and be sad. Feel and bring it to music. A more technical tip I can give, play it before producing it
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly on acoustic stuff, but also on electronic, metal, rock and hip-hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have good ears and I always want to deliver the best I can
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity and emotions
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start by playing the music that I have to work on with my guitar, finding new harmonic textures and ideas
