Bacavi

Producer, writer, mixer

Bacavi on SoundBetter

Versatile producer available for mixing, production, co-writing whose highlights include: releasing on a range of independent and major record labels; remixing Kaskade's 'Disarm You' with my track 'Take What You Can' for a mash up that he plays regularly in his live Redux shows; being a long term collaborator with UK duo Icarus.

I am a versatile electronic producer/writer/multi-instrumentalist. Under the alias 'Bacavi', I have released on a range of independent (Stress, 3-beat, This Never Happened, Apex Faction), and major labels (Polydor, Spinnin' Records). My music is supported extensively across radio (BBC R1, KISS, Triple J) and international DJs (Solomun, Kaskade, Catz n Dogs, Lane 8, MK, Dixon etc).

My primary service is production, co-writing, mixing, and mastering. I am happy to help support or 'fix' any element of the creative process - from writing to the later stages of production and mixing.

Most recently, as a producer and writer, I have contributed to Icarus' album 'Change', have remixed for Lane 8's label 'This Never Happened', and I have just penned a deal with London based label 'All Ways Dance' Records.

I have an intimate knowledge of what it takes to develop raw musical ideas into fully produced, mixed and mastered tracks, fit for commercial consumption whether that be through Spotify, radio, or in a club or festival.

I have the added benefit of having trained as a multi-instrumentalist, specialising in piano, bass, and electric guitar. I trained at Goldsmiths, University of London; graduating in Popular Music.

Interview with Bacavi

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I released a track in 2023 called 'Take What You Can' on Teisto's label 'Aftr:Hrs'. Kaskade started playing it out and we eventually collaborated, turning the tune into a 'remix' of 'Disarm You'. This track went on to cause massive scenes at Coachella, EDC, and many more festivals all over the world. Working on a track like this with Kaskade, who I looked up to as a teenager, is something I'm very proud of. It shows how my own creative sound can breathe life into old songs. It also shows I know how to make tunes sound massive on festival sound systems!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on a range of music with artists such as: Will Clarke, Jaguar, and MAFRO.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, Icarus. I work with them closely. They have taught me a lot about production, mixing, and mastering. And they are fantastic professionals in their own right that I would highly recommend.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Digital for speed and flexibility, analog for warmth and character.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I’ll treat your track like my own and make sure it sounds finished, unique, and true to your vision.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love building relationships with fellow musicians in the process of realising shared creative visions.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “How long will it take?” Usually faster than you expect. “Can you make it sound like ... ?” Yes, but we’ll also make it sound uniquely you.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That mixing is just “making it louder.” It’s about clarity, balance, and emotion.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What’s the story behind the track? Where do you want it heard? Any reference songs you love?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Hire someone who listens and understands your vision, not just someone with credits. Also, bouncing your stems with nothing on the master output makes a huge difference.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Weighted midi keyboard, laptop (with all my plug ins), Juno -106, Shure SM7B, and Ollo S4X headphones.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I studied BMus Popular Music at Goldsmiths, University of London (alongside James Blake, Ross From Friends, Katy B). There, I played in bands and worked in studios (with producers such as Mikko Gordon). I then spent 10 years producing, performing and releasing electronic and pop music writing with many artists who I once (and still do) look up to: Icarus, Will Clarke, and many more.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is unique because my processes stem from a range of creative prompts.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Damon Albarn. A perfect example of how creativity mixed with discipline and consistency can lead to remarkable results. (He's apparently in the studio working on a new idea at 10am everyday).

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Limit yourself to 25 minutes to get an initial idea down. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times. You now have 2 or 3 ideas. Take a 30 minute break (go for a walk, a run, listen to your favourite artist or anything to direct your attention away from the ideas you've just created). Come back to the ideas - which one grabs you, excites you instantly? Trust your instinct and choose 1 idea. Work on this idea for the rest of the day, fleshing out the arrangement and finishing it. A simpler tip: mix quietly. Your ears will adjust and pick up all sorts of details that would otherwise be lost when pumping up the volume.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Everything. But more recently - electronic music ranging from house, DnB, UK Garage to EDM. I also work a lot with pop and hip-hop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My highly creative practical music skills paired with my technical know-how.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Musical expertise: I have years of experience in the studio and on stage as a multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, bass, songwriting, DJing) with credits on Universal Music and Warner among many other labels. From securing 'Dancefloor Moment' features on Radio 1 to collaborating with Kaskade on a special version of 'Disarm You', I know how to make music that sounds amazing for festivals, clubs and on the radio. Creativity: I am highly creative. Want to sound different? Great, let's sample a whale and tune it. Let's dive into an old documentary and sample it. Let's choose a poem, sample it, reverse the words, then tune them to create our own unique sonic palette. A pragmatic, problem-solving approach, rooted in technical knowledge. I know how to make a mix sound loud, bold, and punchy without losing clarity or elements 'muddying' or 'crushing' together.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: If I am mixing or mastering, my process is anchored in 'problem-solving', taking small but effective measurable steps to improve the track. My turnaround is extremely quick. If I am producing and focusing on creative elements, then my process is all about refining the ideas, the sounds, the arrangement so that the track sounds finished and cohesive as a complete piece of art.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work primarily in Logic Pro X with a hefty arsenal of industry leading plug-ins and hardware.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Musicians whose approach is 'I can do it all' such as Damon Albarn, Prince, and Metronomy. These artists have paved the pay for the holistic skills to write, produce, record, mix, master. They have expertise in every part of the music creating process.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mixing, mastering, production, creative support, mentoring.
