Interview with DC Music
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've taught Music Production to a close friend and I'm proud of the quality he is being able to achieve with his own productions.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: In addition to the ghost production, I'm working on my own career as an artist and also building an education platform
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Subwig; WOLVZ
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid. Working with an Analog Synth gives me a 'hands on' feeling. Working only with mouse and keyboard isnt that intuitive for me. Also having the sounds already in AUDIO makes my mind be more efficient in arranging the track since I can no longer change composition part. On the other hand, working with digital plugins gives me a lot of creative freedom (I can really create infinite chain possibilities); and I don't need to bring a lot of stuff other than my computer and headphones if I ever need to work remotely.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will take your request professionaly and make a beautiful track.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being able to work at home or anywhere really. I just need my computer and a good pair of headphones.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What plugins I have; How long will it take me to finish a track. - UAD and Slate Digital plugins - No more than 07 days.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconcepction is: T "The more reference tracks I send him, the better a track will be" If a customer sends too many reference tracks this can make the work difficult.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What genre are you willing to achieve with this production? Tell me no more than 2 reference tracks
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: - Choose a genre. - Choose at least 1 but no more than 2 reference tracks. - I'll do the rest.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My macbook Headphones, my analog Bass Station synth, a MIDI controller
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this for 7 years now. I've also been a label manager for 4 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is focused on musicality (emotions) and groove. This means music that make people dance and evoke good feelings at the same time
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Artists that have a clear vision of the sound they're willing to achieve, but don't have the time to produce music on their own. It's hard to deliver what people are expecting if they don't even know what they're expecting.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't underestimate Music Theory if you're an EDM music producer. It can really take your music to a next level.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic club genres that are more musical. Like Minimal Deep Tech, Afro House and Melodic Techno.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Working with chords and melodies
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring musicality, emotions and a good sound design. If the genre allows, I also bring some classic pure sounds like Korg m1, DX7, TB-03, classic or electric pianos.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with the CORE message of the track. The hook. Then it's time to write a sketch of the chord progression. If the genre I'm working with asks for complex chords (9, 11, 13) I will develop that as well. Then l dive into the rhythm. The groove. Look for a bassline that goes well with what I already have and do the main drum elements at the same time.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Adam Audio t7v Monitors Beyerdynamic 990 DT PRO (for mixing) Bass Station II Analog Synthetizer Arturia Minilab 3 MIDI Controller UAD and Slate Digital plugins Macbook M1
