Interview with Giles Inara

Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my understanding of Music Theory. Part of what I would like to do is to experiment with bringing new musical techniques I've learnt into my tracks. I've spent a lot of time into researching how songs are written within different genres, eras & cultures of music and often feel that it's something that is neglected within electronic music especially.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My debut album 'Flora Inure' was a real passion project of mine that I spent around 3 1/2 years making from start to finish.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Writing and producing songs for my upcoming EP series titled House of Mirrors, which is a mix of some of my earlier influences of House, Soul, Disco & RnB.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A mix of both - depending on the track. Because of my songwriting style I like to have the ability to go back and tweak melodic elements at a later date if needed, which digital is perfect for. The most up front elements to a mix - such as the drums - I'll always source from analog drum machines or live drum recordings. I also use a lot of field recordings and textural sounds within my production and sometimes these play as big a part of the mix as the synths.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more (sometimes)
