Interview with Aaron Parsons

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm the host and audio editor of a podcast called "Spirituality Challenged."

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: If you hire me, all your audio-based dreams will come true.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That I'm a joker like Ryan Reynolds. That's usually the case online. In person, I'm actually quite serious about what I do and very reserved when hanging out with a large group of people.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favourite colour?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Give me as much detail as possible when pitching an idea I can work with for your audio project so I can bring it to life.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I used to want to work with John Reuben, but ever since I put Christianity behind me, I wouldn't mind being mentored by DJ Premier.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I typically work with chiptune sounds in a lot of my tracks which are usually either bass music influenced or just strictly heavy experimental techno. Other times when I'm bored out of my skull, I like to write boom bap hip-hop.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: My emphasis is on rhythm. A music track without some kind of rhythm even if there's no percussion is a track that doesn't move me.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I usually start with a bassline or chord progression. I then get sucked into building the rhythm of a track, and end off with a catchy melody.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: My compositions are inspired by Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, and Yuzo Koshiro
