I specialize in mixing instrumental and electronic music. I will spend whatever time is necessary to make sure that you are happy with the mix and will work within your budget. I've been a professional musician for decades, working mostly within the classical and theater worlds.
I come from a very eclectic background, and it shows in my interests and skillsets. I'm detail oriented and professional. I can mix, edit, arrange, clean-up - whatever you need done to audio. I love the mixing process, and making a song sound perfect. I can also help create and edit podcasts. If you need interstitial or mood music, or if you need someone to edit and mix the raw recordings, I can do that.
I am also a trained choral singer, and have an excellent ear for vocal pitch and performance. If you need me to tune and edit vocal takes, that is easy for me.
I specialize in mostly ambient, electronic, classical, and new classical type music. If you write in these genres we will get along great, and I will work very hard to bring your music to life!

Interview with Dana Haynes (D.Haynes)
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will not shortchange your music no matter your experience or budget. I treat every song with the same amount of focus and detail.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I find great joy in helping other musicians and artists bring their work to life. It is my greatest pleasure to be a part of a team or collaboration that brings joy to audiences or consumers.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who inspires you? Who do you listen to when you aren't writing?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A piano for practicing and composing. A guitar to learn. A zoom recorder to document. Great headphones to listen. And a solar rechargeable battery bank!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied Choral Music Education and Computer Science, and for the last 20 years I've been a freelance musician in New York City. I've done everything from conducting, performing, singing, teaching, arranging, orchestration, sheet music, and music directing, to mixing, producing and composition. I have a very wide experience as a musician and I bring that breadth of experience to my mixing ear. Beyond the studio work, I also do work programming Ableton Live for use in performances, particularly theater and new classical. I've worked on a variety of Broadway shows and a music programmer, including "Moulin Rouge!", "Beetlejuice", "Cats: The Jellicle Ball", "Lempicka", and a variety of others. I've programmed for composers like Ellis Ludwig-Leone, Ted Hearne, and Lisel.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Someone working in the New Classical genre, like Poppy Ackroyd or Caroline Shaw. Or electronic artists like Floating Points or Rival Consoles
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I find it's better to mix by pulling things down than by pushing things up constantly.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic and piano-based instrumental.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Attention to detail. "The devil is in the details" as they say. But decisions must also be made quickly. I love bringing out the elements in a song that breathe life into it.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm a lifelong musician who has transitioned into more studio work over the last 5 years. I've always gravitated towards support positions with
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a project studio in Brooklyn, NY that I use for both personal projects and as a work/mixing environment. If you are local, you are welcome to come visit to check out my setup and proof mixes.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I find artists like Nils Frahm, Hania Rani, Max Cooper and Robot Koch very inspiring. Their music and mixes are immaculate and always full of life, no matter how synthetic the source material is. I love music that blends the organic and electronic like that.
