Interview with Noisecage Studio
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Modern Rock Ep
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, used in the most intelligent way possible.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your track will sound absolutely amazing!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Reaching the final result and giving my all to bring out the perfect sound for the client. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing their vision come to life and knowing I've helped create something they’re proud of.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customer: "Do we really have to do the mastering?" Me: 😑
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is probably that people who are not in the industry or passionate about music struggle to understand the role and the amount of work that goes into post-production and finalizing a professional track.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: First, I listen to the client’s previous works to understand their style, how they create, and their thought process. The next step is to listen to the demo track, which helps me quickly grasp the desired sound direction and identify the parts that the client wants to highlight. Then, I ask the client what they want this track to convey and how they envision it when finished.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When looking to hire a provider like me, it's crucial to find someone who truly understands your vision and musical goals. Look for a mixing engineer who not only has the technical skills but also the passion and dedication to bring out the best in your music. Communication is essential, so choose someone who listens to your ideas and gives feedback that aligns with your objectives. Also, check their portfolio to make sure their style matches what you're looking for. Ultimately, you want to work with someone who is as invested in your success as you are and who can transform your tracks into powerful, professional recordings that stand out in the competitive market.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were on a deserted island and could only bring 5 pieces of my gear, I would take my computer, my ears, my speakers, my audio interface, and a guitar.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My mixing style has a very modern approach, focusing on preserving dynamics, creating a wide stereo image, and delivering a punchy low end. In short, it embodies everything the modern rock and metal market demands in 2024.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I have many artists that I greatly admire and would love to work with, but one of the best parts of this job is discovering new artists and styles. It's incredibly rewarding to help convey the power of their unique language in the most impactful and best way possible.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When sending your rock or metal track for mixing, make sure to record the guitars in double tracking (or even quad tracking if necessary). This will allow the mixing engineer to create an unmatched wall of sound.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and Metal music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing and Mastering process
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My modern approach to mixing focuses on preserving dynamics as much as possible without compromising the loudness of the track. This allows the song to have a wide stereo image, similar to major American pop productions.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Understanding what the artist wants is the cornerstone of my work process. Once I have a clear vision of their goals and preferences, I choose the most suitable methods to achieve a market-ready result. I combine these techniques with precise technical measurement of all key parameters to ensure the final product meets industry standards. This approach allows me to deliver a finished product that not only reflects the artist's vision but also holds up in the competitive music market.
