Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Killer Mike "Michael Album" as the atmos mixer. Took home 3 Grammy's.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Just finished mixing Saweetie "My Best" in stereo and atmos, also did Killer Mike Atmos and won 3 Grammy's.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I just arrived but Im sure I know quite a few people.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, I love the warmth and tone of analog but also love the preciseness and convenience of digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quality mixing (not mastering) or your money back.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Mixing, I love bringing peoples music to life for the rest of the world to hear.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you need all the beat stems? Yes, everytime if you want the highest quality mix.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: You can't turn a turd into diamonds but you can polish it!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are their expectations of the song and what direction are they trying to go with the record, I can get them there.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get all of the files together for your song and make sure they match the reference mix exactly unless specified otherwise.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Macbook with Protools and Fabfilter plugs, Interface, ns-10 monitor speakers, Neve 1073, U87 Mic.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a tracking engineer in the Bay Area, self taught. I made my way to LA and worked with Hitmaka as a tracking engineer for a while and then with MixedByAli as his mixing assistant for 5 years where I further trained my ear. I have been audio engineering for 20 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A hybrid between analog and digital, the best of both worlds.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I ve worked with everyone so no one im looking to work with that is already established, would love to work with some future superstars.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Leave headroom before putting your limiter on and always get all the stems for full control of post production/mixing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop/Rap, R&B, Afrobeat, Pop, Latin, Country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing records, I ve mixed a lot of mainstream records.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: 20 years experience as an audio engineer. I have 3 Grammy awards and 2 diamond records. I also teach Dolby Atmos and am certified for Dolby. I produce as well so any post production can be done as well.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to mix and send to master and get one round of notes but am open to all processes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work on SSL Consoles when the budget can afford the room, otherwise I work in the box and have just about every plugin there is.
