Interview with Magenta Siravo
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Working on 2 cover songs with an exceptional producer, I am very excited to share when they're released, they're both classic 80s tunes.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly 80's genre music, my natural pop/rock voice lends itself well to this style, likely because I grew up in the 80s and it's the style I like the most and am accustomed to for pop/rock music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: The ability to to tune into the feeling of a song and effectively convey it in the way I express it through my vocals. I've been told my pitch and tone are very clear, while also being able to offer grit and power, so I offer a contrast- the ability to sing very powerfully, strongly, as well as sing tenderly, sweetly, lyrically.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring 20 years of musicianship to the table, along with a solid vocal foundation , having studied with several coaches in my younger years (from 13-to age 22- 9 years of training) have participated in numerous choirs including professional choral work with PORT opera (2001-2003) and in the past 7 years, have performed in professional bands, singing rock, pop, and RnB. I bring experience, as well as the heart of an artist (I'm also a painter/illustrator) which colors the way I see things, including how I express myself vocally. I feel a song deeply and am able to emote effectively when singing a song. I bring a lot of passion, as well as the ability to sing strong, powerfully as well as sweetly, melodically, softly, as needed.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'll listen to a song many, many times till it becomes a part of me so to speak; I get a feel for it and take on the emotion of the song. I then record as many takes as needed until I'm satisfied with results, sending you only the best 7-10 takes. I will then listen carefully for areas where harmonies might enrich certain parts of the song, and record the harmonies in seperate takes, including about 3-4 takes for each harmony part individually. I will also sometimes add "decoration" as I'm inspired to or if I feel the song could use it to make it more impactful.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is simple and concise- with pro gear including a Warm Audio Jr Mic, a full surround mini sound dampening windscreen/foam encapsulation for crisp and clear audio, as well as the essential- scarlet focusrite interface, a minimalist setup that delivers professional results.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: i'm very inspired by the producers I've worked with, they each have a unique style and sound and have been a joy to work with.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly session vocals- I record several takes for the lead track, sending you the best 8-10 takes. I then record harmonies, and any other doubles/decoration to add some more flair. Most of the session vocal work I've done has been in the 80's style music genre, 90s RnB as well as rock-pop 80s vocals. Think Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Ann Wilson (Heart), and Teena Marie
